Chapter 169
JULIAN
Dominic chuckled. It was a low, rich sound that grated against my nerves like nails on a chalkboard. “No. It would not. You going on air to talk about me having an affair with your wife will not affect me at all. Instead, you will only destroy your wife’s reputation.”
“I do not care about Celeste’s reputation right now,” I said, my voice hard. “What matters is getting my wife back. Even if she breaks in the process, I will build her up again. So I am sure you would not want such a stain on your name. You would not want the world to say that a man like you, a billionaire like you, could not find any woman except someone else’s wife. So what is it going to be? Are you going to make that call right now and end things with Celeste?”
Dominic smiled at me again, that same infuriating, knowing smile, and I felt my hands cut! into fists so tight that my knuckles went white.
He leaned forward, his eyes locking onto mine. “Are you threatening me, Julian? You see, you are Celeste’s husband. If you go ahead and tell the world about my affair with her, you will be the one shamed along with her.
Everyone will say your wife came to me because you could not satisfy her. Do you really think I care whether you or Celeste are shamed before the public? I could not care less. You already said it yourself. This is payback for what you did. So I am not going to stop until I get bored. What are you going to do about it?”
I felt the anger rising in my chest, hot and suffocating, and I had to force myself to breathe, to stay calm, to not lunge across the desk and wrap my hands around his throat.
“Let me tell you something,” I continued, my voice low and dangerous. “I don’t mind. Even if the world shames me because Celeste is my wife, I would not care. I would not mind as long as I get her back. But there is no way you will get out of this with your reputation intact. Everyone will drag your name through the mud. I promise you. If you do not make that call right now, I will go out there and let the press know that you are having an affair with my wife.”
Dominic looked at his watch, a casual, dismissive gesture, like I was a mosquito buzzing in his ear that he had finally decided to swat. “Okay then. I have an important meeting, so let us wrap this up. Enough with the jokes.”
