“And now?” Pat asked. “What happens now?”

I pulled my hand away and leaned back in my chair, staring at the ceiling, letting the words settle in the air between us. “Now the time has come for our arrangement to end. Just like I proposed to him in the beginning. Julian and Seraphine have caught us having sex. They have experienced the pain we experienced when we found out they were sleeping with each other. I have asked Julian for a divorce. Everything has gone according to plan.”

Pat tilted her head, her eyes searching mine. “So, what next?”
