Chapter 130
“What exactly do you take me for?” I asked when his lips crashed against mine, and I bit him hard enough to taste blood.
“I’m in a bad mood, Seraphine.”
“So am I. Take me home.”
“Don’t be willful. This will be the last time I touch you Just behave. My temper is really bad right now.”
“Did you not see what we just witnessed?” My voice rose despite myself. “Did you not see your wife riding my husband’s cock like her life depended on it? And you want to fuck me in the back of your car like I am some whore you can use whenever you feel like it?”
I didn’t realize when I slapped him.
His hand was around my throat almost immediately, his fingers squeezing, cutting off my air, pressing against my windpipe. I struggled, clawing at his wrist, gasping, and he held me there for a long moment before he let go. I collapsed against the seat, coughing, sucking in air.
Then he opened the door and shoved me out.
I landed on the ground, my palms scraping against the asphalt, pain shooting up my arm. My ass cheeks throbbed from last night and I could feel the sting of gravel in my skin. Before I could push myself up, his car engine roared and he sped away, leaving me on the side of the road like garbage.
I sat there for a moment, staring at his taillights disappearing into the distance.
Something shifted inside me. Something cold and hard and sharp, like a blade being forged in the hottest fire.
I did not remember how I got home. I remembered the shower, the water running hot until it ran cold, the act of washing everything off my skin. And then I sat in the dark alone, my chest heaving, my fingers curling into fists on my thighs.
I had not cried so hard in years. I had always prided myself on being in control, on being the one who walked away before she could be walked away from. But Dominic had broken me in a way I had not known I could be broken.
Only now did I realize that I had genuinely always had feelings for him. I had not known until he was gone, until the door had closed and the key had been thrown away, until I was standing on the outside looking in at a life I could no longer have. I had assumed he would always be there, believed that his love was something I could count on no matter what I did. And now he was gone and he was with Celeste, and the thought of them together made me want to burn the whole world down.
But Celeste. Celeste did not know she had just stepped on the tail of a lioness. \
I thought long and hard about what to do.
