Then he moved to Paris.
“I got robbed once,” he said casually.
I blinked.
“Once?”
“Yes.”
“That’s not a normal sentence.’
“It was late,” he said. “I was walking back to my hotel.”
“Alone?”
“Yes.
“Of course.”
“And someone came up behind me.”
I leaned in slightly.
“What did you do?”
“Nothing at first,” he said. “Because I thought I was imagining it.”
“You weren’t.”
“I wasn’t.”
“They took my wallet,” he continued. “Phone too.”
“Everything?”
“Everything.”
“What did you do after?”
“I stood there for a minute.”
“Just… stood?”
“Yes.”
