Too Late To Love Me I Already Left With His Twins (Lydia and Dave) novel Chapter 50

Catharsis

Lydia POV

I laughed.

Then cried.

Which was inconvenient.

And deeply embarrassing given I was alone.

I set the phone down.

Covered my mouth.

Laughed again through tears.

Because somehow

After all this time

The universe had finally looked over and said:

Actually, no. Let’s ruin them instead.

Well deserved.

Entirely.

I sat there in silence for a while.

Then picked up the phone.

Locked it.

Placed it face down.

And said to no one,

“Interesting.

Because apparently therapy had taught me restraint.

I left work early.

Collected the children.

And drove them to swimming lessons.

The car ride was loud.

As always.

Mummy,Eli said from the backseat, “if sharks live in water why do we swim in their house?”

Because we are arrogant as a species.” 1

Ava nodded solemnly.

“That tracks.” 1

What’s tracks?”

Later,” I said.

At a red light, I glanced in the mor.

Ava was fixing her goggles with grave concentration.

Eli was wearing his on his forehead like a tiny, confused accountant.

My children,I said.

YesAva answered.

“If either of you drown your instructor today, I will be annoyed.”

No promises,Eli said.

At the swim center I crouched to straighten Ava’s cap.

Then kissed her forehead.

Then Eli’s.

Then one extra kiss each because motherhood is power and they can file complaints later.

Mum,” Ava groaned, wiping her cheek. I told you to stop doing this. It’s cheesy.

“You’ll survive.”

She sighed the sigh of a woman burdened by incompetent leadership.

Eli leaned away preemptively.

“Don’t.”

Too late.

I kissed him anyway.

He recoiled dramatically.

Mother. Please.

I ruffled his hair.

He gasped like I had ruined his career.

Then they walked toward class together, bickering in whispers.

My chest did that annoying warm thing it did around them.

Frequently.

Against my will.

By evening I stood outside Dr. Sana’s office.

She opened the door before I knocked.

“Hello, PR goddess.

I smiled.

That nickname remains unjustified.”

Chapter 50 1

“Ah. Catharsis.

Messy, but effective.”

I stilled.

You said your idea of love was shaped by a single act of kindness once.”

At the plant there.

There was a boy,I said.

“You were mistaken?”

“Profoundly.
