Another silence.

Her voice sharpened immediately.

“I’m not trying to destabilize them.”
“Then what exactly are you trying to do?”
I leaned back against my chair slowly.
“Start honestly.”
That quieted her briefly.
And for the first time in a long time, I spoke without defensiveness.
Without ego.
Without trying to protect myself.
“I think part of the reason they still struggle around me is because there’s this giant invisible thing nobody is addressing.”
She stayed silent.
So I continued.
“They deserve honesty, Lydia. Age appropriate honesty obviously. But honesty.”
