Chapter 77

Somehow, the Levy family got wind of the news. That afternoon, the whole clan showed up at the hospital to
visit Caroline.
It had been a whole month before Brianna finally saw her daughter again. Kendra called out to her timidly. “Mom.” She then obediently stood by Gabrielle’s side.
Seeing how timid Kendra was, Brianna felt a pang in her chest, and she wished her daughter would grow up carefree and full of sunshine. But then Brianna sighed and let it go. ‘Kids would always grow up in their own way, she thought to herself.
Josefina and Caroline were chatting away as if nothing had changed. Gabrielle shot Brianna a disapproving look.
She grumbled, “You got hurt so badly and even had a miscarriage. Instead of staying home to recover for a year or two, why are you running around for work? If you end up with lasting health issues, you’ll be the one suffering.”
Brianna just listened, figuring Gabrielle was just worried about her, and didn’t say a word. Gabrielle continued nitpicking.
“Look, you want to build your own career, and you and your husband have discussed. That’s your business. But really, it’s not like you have to rush off to Valeentia right now.
“If you end up with lasting health issues, people will start saying your mom’s not around and I’m just bullying you as your mother–in–law.”
Gabrielle was especially nagging today. Brianna couldn’t understand if she was truly concerned about her or just putting on an act to be critical.
But none of it really mattered anymore. She just listened, threw out a couple of half–hearted responses, and didn’t bother to argue.
Seeing Brianna keep quiet, Gabrielle finally stopped nagging. She changed the topic and asked, “Are we going to hold Kendra’s birthday party as usual?”
A hint of guilt flashed across Brianna’s calm face. ‘Kendra’s birthday is at the end of May. How have I totally forgotten?‘ Brianna thought, feeling that familiar pang of guilt.
In high society, a birthday party wasn’t just a celebration; it was a social battlefield, a place to flaunt wealth and connections. Every year, Brianna would organize Kendra’s birthday party. But this year, she was hesitating.
“Gabrielle, could you organize it this year? I’m really overwhelmed,” Brianna said.
Gabrielle was eager to be part of Kendra’s birthday celebration, but she acted as if it were a big hassle. “Alright then, I’ll take care of it this year,” she replied.
Brianna quickly thanked Gabrielle. Kendra shot Brianna a surprised look. ‘Mom always takes care of everything for me personally. Lately, she barely seemed to care about me. Now she’s not even bothering with my birthday party,‘ Kendra thought, feeling lost.

Kendra gave her mom an aggrieved look. Brianna couldn’t bear seeing her daughter so upset, but the though quickly passed. ‘With Grandma needing care and so much happening at work, I really don’t have the energy for anything else, Brianna thought.
Kendra could sense her mom’s indifference. Trying to win her mom’s attention, she asked carefully, “Mom, when did you come back from Veleentia?”
Brianna softly caressed Kendra’s little face; her voice carried a hint of guilt. “Grandma fell sick, and I haven’t been able to go back to see you yet,” she said gently.
Kendra seemed more mature now. Instead, she comforted Bianna, “It’s alright, Mom. I know you’ll come an see me once you’re done with everything.”
Brianna felt a lump in her throat. She couldn’t help thinking back to when she was little, even though she knew her dad wasn’t really coming back to see her, she would still act mature and say he would come home once he finished his work.
Brianna couldn’t bear seeing her daughter look so meek and pitiful. She gently wrapped her arms around Kendra and said, “I’m sorry, sweetheart. Mom will find some time in a couple of days and be with you.”
‘Perhaps bringing Kendra into this world was the biggest mistake I ever made,’ Brianna thought, guilt gnawir at her. She felt trapped, and she had let her daughter down.
Kendra gently held her mom’s face in her tiny hands. Her eyes sparkled with anticipation when she asked, “You and Dad together?” Brianna hesitated for a moment, couldn’t bear to say no, and nodded.
Seeing Brianna’s attitude soften, Kendra said she wanted to stay with her this weekend. Brianna gently refused. “Sweetheart, it’s not convenient to have you here at the hospital.
“I’ve promised to spend time with you in a couple of days. For now, go home with Grandma, okay?”
Kendra looked aggrieved. When Gabrielle was chatting with the others, Kendra took the chance to whisper t Brianna, “But Aunt Margo doesn’t like me, and Justin doesn’t like me either. I really don’t want to go to Grandma’s house.”
Brianna frowned. “Justin is back?” she asked.
“Yeah, Dad was the one who brought him back,” Kendra said.
Before the trip to Valeentia, Brandon and Margo apparently got into a fight for Benedict.
Brianna was caught in a tough spot. She hated seeing Kendra so upset, but she didn’t want to make things harder on herself either.
Brianna thought of letting Kendra stay with her for a while. But when she turned to look at Caroline resting in the hospital bed, she pushed the thought aside. Reluctantly, she forced herself to say no to her daughter.
“Just wait a little longer, sweetheart. Once I sort out everything, I’ll come pick you up,” Brianna said. Kendra’s eyes brimmed with sadness as she hung her head, not saying a word.
Josefina walked over. Brianna quickly pulled a chair over for her. “Grandma, how have you been feeling

lately?” Brianna asked.
Josefina, eyes full of concern, said, “You’ve lost weight!”
Brianna gave
her a reassuring smile. “Don’t worry, Grandma. I’m feeling much better now,” she said.
Josefina’s brow was deeply knit, worry written all over her face. “I’ve been feeling restless lately. Are you and Brandon doing fine?” she asked.
Brianna could tell Josefina was genuinely concerned, so she nodded and said reassuringly, “We’re doing fine. Grandma.”
Josefina finally looked a little relaxed. “That’s a relief,” she said, heaving a sigh of relief. Brianna managed a wry smile.
By the time the Levy family finally left, it was already dark outside. Brianna was just about to ask Mitch and Vickie to leave when visitors appeared at the door to the ward. It was Patsy and Clair.
After Brianna returned, she was busy caring for Caroline. She thus had to leave Clair in Patsy’s care. Patsy ar Clair walked in, carrying a bouquet and a basket of fruits.
Brianna introduced Clair to her family members. Everyone greeted each other. Brianna looked at Clair, gui written all over her face. “Sorry, Clair. I still haven’t had the chance to take you out for a proper meal,” she said.
Seeing the hollows under Brianna’s eyes, a hint of heartache flashed across Clair’s eyes. “Come on, Brianna, you don’t need to be so formal with me.”
Patsy jumped in to smooth things over. “Don’t worry, Brianna. I’ll make sure Clair is well taken care of,” she said with a reassuring smile.
Brianna smiled awkwardly. “Once I get through these busy days, I’ll take you both out for dinner,” she said. She was thankful toward Patsy, but between close friends, there was really no need to say much.
Vickie poured Clair a glass of water. “Mr. Salazar, thanks so much for all your help with Brianna’s startup,” sh said, her tone full of gratitude. Mitch and Vickie knew Brianna was getting back into design, and Clair had really gone out of his way for her.
Clair quickly took the glass. “Don’t mention it. Brianna’s got real talent; she was born to be a designer,” he sai his voice full of genuine admiration.
Brianna felt a bit embarrassed at the praise. “You’re flattering me, Clair. If anyone’s a natural designer, it’s you,” she replied, smiling.
The group exchanged pleasantries. Mitch had been in the gemstone business back in the day. He and Clair really clicked, finding themselves on the same wavelength as they chatted.
Caroline looked at Clair, noticing his gentle, refined demeanor. She actually thought he was even better than Tristan. Patsy leaned in and whispered to Brianna, “You should really thank Mr. Pratt, big time, for this.”
Brianna was puzzled. “Why?” she asked.

“He really went all out to set this up for you, spared no expense,” Patsy said, winking at her teasingly.
Brianna realized she hadn’t even texted Tristan since she got back. She could only press on, “So, what did h do?”
“To draw Unity Group into his game, he went as far as launching several new companies, just to hunt Unity Group down,” Patsy said, her eyes sparkling with excitement.
Brianna felt a faint unease gnawing at her. She worried it might end up hurting her friend’s interests. ‘I wan to take revenge, but I really don’t want my friend to get caught in the crossfire,’ she thought to herself.
“I haven’t contacted him since I got back,” Brianna said.
“You don’t have to. He’ll come looking for you when he’s available,” Patsy reassured her. Tristan had been b with his own schemes lately and was hardly in Klamdiff.
Brianna suppressed her emotions and took Patsy out to the balcony at the far end of the hospital hallway. then handed over the naked photos Darcy had sent her.
Patsy instantly flared up and started cursing up a storm. “Damn it! That bitch really ended up hooking up Brandon!” she snapped, her voice sharp with fury.
Brianna quickly put a finger to her lips, signaling Patsy to keep it down. Patsy lowered her voice and continued to examine the photos.
“What’s your plan?” Patsy asked.
“Divorce,” Brianna replied, her voice firm and resolute.
“That’s way too easy for those two bastards!” Patsy snapped, her voice full of outrage.
Patsy found herself plagued by nagging doubts, her mind unable to settle. Back when Brianna was injured, Brandon had seemed so genuinely devoted. It really didn’t seem like he was merely faking it.
‘How did he go from that to hooking up with that little vixen so fast?‘ Patsy wondered, her thoughts in chac ‘Did I really get him all wrong?‘
Patsy flipped through the photos twice, her brows furrowing as she looked them over. She finally spotted something suspicious.
Patsy leaned in and asked in a low voice, “Did you notice anything off about these photos?”
Brianna, confused, leaned in closer to get a better look at the photos. “What are you talking about?” she aske her brows furrowing.
Patsy handed the phone back to her. “Look, all these shots are from the same scene, and Brandon’s falling asleep in every single photo,” Patsy said, keeping her voice low.
Brianna brushed it off. “But it doesn’t change the fact that those two still ended up in bed together,” she snapped, her voice sharp with anger.

Patsy frowned, “What I’m saying is, perhaps that bitch secretly took these photos while Brandon was asleep. Patsy said.
Brianna still didn’t get the point. “So what?”
Patsy smiled and said, “Whatever happened, Darcy sending you these photos just means she’s desperate. She’s panicking and lashing out.”
Brianna just shook her head, feeling helpless. “Whatever it is, he’s still having an affair,” she said, her voice flat and resigned.
She knew exactly what Patsy was getting at. Darcy sneaking around to snap those photos just proved Brandon never wanted her to know about this. ‘But what difference does it make? It doesn’t change the fact that he’s having an affair, she thought.
Patsy knew Brianna didn’t mess around when it came to relationships. So she didn’t say anything else. “Honestly, marriage is more like a business collaboration than just about love,” Patsy said, her tone serious.
Patsy worried Brianna might act on impulse and divorce Brandon at the critical moment. If that happened, all of Tristan’s efforts would likely go to waste.
