Chapter 60 Old Grudges Resurface

Time flew by, and the New Year was almost here.

Brianna was now able to get out of bed and walk around a bit.

But she still had a long road to recovery ahead of her.

Brandon had hired a professional medical team.

He was ready to bring Brianna home so she could recuperate in comfort.

The air in the hospital was stale.

The mood here was downright depressing.

Brianna was sick of staying in the hospital.

She was bored out of her mind here.

Life had to go on.

Brianna wasn’t going to let this accident hold her back or stop her from moving forward.

It was the day Brianna was finally going home.

Everyone in the family, young and old, showed up.

Brandon even brought Kendra along.

This was only the second time Brianna and Kendra had seen each other since the accident. This was only the second time Brianna and Kendra had seen each other since the accident.

After Brianna started to get better, Brandon had brought Kendra to visit her once before. Kendra broke her arm in a fall and was recovering at home after being discharged from the hospital. During her recovery, her mom never bothered to look after her.

And on top of that, her mom took her dad away from her too.

Kendra couldn’t help but hold a grudge against her mom.

When Kendra saw her mom, she called out softly, her voice awkward and full of grievance.

She quickly ducked behind Brandon.

Her arm was in a cast, slung around her neck.

With her free hand, she clutched a brown teddy bear.

Brianna looked at her daughter, guilt written all over her face.

She felt so ashamed inside.

Her face was pale, and she was almost desperate to win Kendra’s affection.

“Kendra, come here, let Mommy give you a hug,” Brianna said softly.

Brianna, still weak, struggled to bend down and pulled Kendra into a gentle, almost pleading hug.

She gently blew on Kendra’s injured hand, trying to comfort her.

“Does it still hurt?” she asked Kendra softly.

Kendra looked at her mom’s weak, tired face.

She felt a sudden ache in her heart.

But then she remembered what her aunt said-Mom was just faking it.

Her aunt claimed Mom wanted to take everyone away, especially Dad.

Kendra’s face went cold again.

She said, her voice icy, “It doesn’t hurt anymore.”

As she spoke, she turned her body slightly and withdrew her hand.

Brianna looked hurt, her expression falling for a moment.

She kept smiling, even though it stung inside.

Wally unlocked

She kept reaching out to Kendra, hoping to close the distance between them.

“What a cute teddy bear,” Brianna said, trying to sound cheerful.

Did Grandma buy-it for you?”

“No, Darcy bought it for me,” Kendra replied, her voice cold and distant.

Brianna’s smile stiffened.

She turned to look at Brandon

‘Didn’t he promise he’d make the person who hurt me pay?’ Brianna thought, her chest tightening. ‘So why is the one who hurt me still allowed around my kid?’

With so many people around, Brianna kept quiet.

She stood up with a cold expression, struggling a bit as she did.

She just let everyone fuss around her, staying silent.

Then she followed them back to the villa.

Now, only Brianna and Patsy were left in the room.

Patsy noticed something was wrong with Brianna’s expression.

Patsy had a pretty good idea why.

Patsy didn’t want Brianna to get mad, so she explained why they still hadn’t found anything.

She told Brianna they just couldn’t find any evidence.

“I went back to the site the next day,” Patsy said. “But that night, it snowed really hard again. All the traces were wiped out.”

Brianna listened, her heart sinking.

She closed her eyes, feeling utterly helpless.

She leaned her head back against the bed.

She let out a bitter, mocking laugh.

“Guess fate really is blind,” she muttered.

Patsy gently took her hand to comfort her, her voice warm and steady. “One day, they’ll slip up and show their true selves. Just be patient. As long as we’re aware of what they’re up to, that’s enough.”

“Let’s stay sharp and keep an eye out,” Patsy said. “We won’t miss their slip-ups when they finally show their true colors.” Brianna didn’t want Patsy to worry about her.

She just nodded in response.

Patsy recalled something and added, “When you were unconscious, you needed a blood transfusion. Your dad was the one who donated his blood.”

Patsy wasn’t trying to get Brianna to let go of her grudge against her father, or to feel grateful for what he did.

She just wanted to remind Brianna that this family sure knew how to put on an act.

They were all such good actors.

Brianna gave a cold, mocking laugh.

“Wow, what a big favor, saving my life,” she said

Patsy gave Brianna’s hand a reassuring squeeze, encouraging her.

“Getting back on your feet is the strongest way to fight back against them,” Patsy said.

Brianna nodded.

“I know. Every bit of suffering they’ve made me endure, I’ll pay them back a hundredfold,” Brianna replied.

That night, after everyone had left, the house finally quieted down.

Brandon gently comforted Kendra, making sure she was alright.

He returned to their room.

He softly asked Brianna, “Are you feeling okay? Do you need anything? Come on, let me help you take a bath.” During Brianna’s time in the hospital, Brandon personally took care of her every need.

He helped her with everything-bathing, washing up, even brushing her teeth.

He never showed even a hint of impatience or annoyance.

Brianna was really moved.

thought after everything we’d been through, things were finally looking up, Brianna thought to herself.

But then Darcy showed up, and all those dreams came crashing down.

Brandon had been looking after her, handling everything for her, no matter how small.

‘Is all this just because of Darcy?’ Brianna thought.

She shot Brandon a scrutinizing look.

“Do you know who the culprit is yet?” she asked

Brandon froze for a moment.

He thought of Benedict, the main suspect in his mind.

But there still wasn’t any concrete evidence to pin it on her.

So he decided to keep it from Brianna for now.

“We’re still investigating. Don’t worry, I’ve got this,” Brandon said.

‘So he really is covering for Darcy, Brianna thought. ‘Does he seriously think ve lost my memory?’

Brianna pushed Brandon’s hand away when he tried to help her up.

She shot him a cold, icy glare.

“You can drop the act now,” she said.

Brandon’s eyes flashed with hurt.

“What act am I putting on?” he asked.

Brianna let out a cold, mocking laugh.

“You know perfectly well,” she replied coldly.

Brandon hesitated, a hint of helplessness flickering in his eyes.

He flashed her a playful, indulgent smile, like he was coaxing a little kid.

“Okay, okay, I’m acting. Let’s just take a bath, alright?” he said.

Brianna pushed him away again, her movements weak but determined, eyes full of resentment.

Her gaze was icy, brimming with hatred.

“You must be overjoyed now that the baby is gone, aren’t you?” she said coldly.

Brandon felt the sting of her words.

It was like someone had ripped open an old wound with a knife.

He shot back coldly, “What am I supposed to be happy about? Tell me, should I be happy?”

Brianna’s anger flared.

“Losing that dead weight. Shouldn’t you be thrilled?” she shot back.

Brandon just figured she was pissed and needed to take it out on him.

He let out a long breath, trying to calm himself down.

He forced himself to swallow his feelings.

He managed a strained smile, patiently soothing her.

“Honestly, I’d be happier if I had a few more ‘burdens’ to care for,” Brandon said. “You’re finally feeling a bit better, so don’t get all worked up, okay? Let’s just take a bath first.

“Now that we’re home, I can pamper you with a princess bath.”

When she saw him act like that, Brianna’s fury only grew stronger.

It felt like punching into thin air. No matter how hard she lashed out, it just didn’t land.

She blurted out whatever came to mind, not caring if it hurt.

“That baby wasn’t even yours,” Brianna spat. “Even if this accident hadn’t happened, you would’ve made sure it was gone sooner or later, wouldn’t you?”.

Brandon had just managed to tamp down his anger, but now it surged right back up.

It boiled over again, hotter than before.

Chapter 60 Old Grydges Resurface

He felt suffocated. like he was trapped with no way out.

The baby wasn’t mine?” Brandon echoed.

Brianna’s expression bordered on madness, her eyes flashing with a wild, reckless light.

She was goading him on purpose.

“Not yours,” she sneered.

Brandon’s face was thunderous, like he was about to explode.

“Then whose is it?” he growled.

Brianna shot back stubbornly, “I have no idea. But honestly, even if hooked up with some random guy, I’d still rather have his kid than yours. I wouldn’t even want a child with you,

Brandon narrowed his eyes, a storm raging in his gaze.

His eyes were a tempest, swirling with fury and pain.

He was past the point of reason.

His words came out sharp as blades, meant to wound just as deeply.

“So you don’t want to have my kid now, huh?” Brandon snapped. “Who was the one who spiked my drink back then, practically begging me for a baby? And now you suddenly don’t want my kid anymore?”

Brancon’s eyes burned with fury, his gaze locked on Brianna.

He pressed her harder, not letting up for a second.

“So this wasn’t some accident, was it? You threw yourself down there on purpose, didn’t you?” Brandon demanded. “Even a beast wouldn’t hurt its own young. But you actually went after your own kid.

“You nearly lost your life for this. So who’s really putting on an act here?”

Brianna was so angry, her forehead was throbbing.

Her hands wouldn’t stop shaking.

‘Unbelievable, he’s really flipping the script now,’ Brianna seethed, ‘All this, just to protect Darcy. He actually has the nerve to blame me, like I did it on purpose.

Brianna remembered how she’d been fighting for her life, barely hanging on.

But he had his own motives all along.

She slapped him hard across the face.

The crisp sound of the slap rang out in the

room.

Both of them froze, stunned by what had just happened.

Then, they locked eyes, each seeing the other as their worst enemy.

Brandon grabbed Brianna’s hand, his grip tight and unyielding.

His eyes were cold and dangerous.

“You’re the first person who’s ever dared to slap me,” Brandon said. “And you’ll be the last.”

His last words were laced with a clear threat.

After dropping that threat, Brandon got up and headed for the door, ready to leave.

Brianna felt like she was about to lose her mind.

Her chest felt so tight, like she could barely breathe.

“Stop pretending you’re some kind of saint,” Brianna snapped. “You’re just a petty, selfish jerk. Cold, heartless, and fake to the core.”

Brianna tried to get up, but the surge of anger made her whole body throb with pain.

“You knew perfectly well that baby wasn’t yours,” Brianna snapped. “Yet you still put on that show, acting like some proud father. Do you actually care about your family at all?

“All you care about is how you look in front of others. You’re just terrified people will find out you got played for a fool.” Brandon turned around, looming over Brianna with an air of dominance.

There was a mocking, almost pitying look in his gaze.

“Listen up, Brandon said. “That night, I was the one who took you to that hotel room. I don’t need you to prop my pride up.

Chapter 60 Old Grudges Resurface

“I don’t need you to play guardian of my reputation. If I hadn’t been absolutely sure that kid was mine, do you really think you’d still be breathing right now?

“You think you can make a fool out of me? Try it, and see what happens. You should know your place before you try anything.”

With that, he shoved his hands into his pockets, and shot Brianna a look full of scorn.

“Don’t blame your own incompetence on me,” he added. “Can’t even own up to what you did, huh? You just need someone to blame, so you dump all your anger on me.”

With that, he walked out of the room, not even sparing her a glance.

Brianna was in utter shock.

She stood rooted to the spot, unable to react.

She couldn’t stop shaking.
