Chapter 41
It was a pitch-black night, and the villa area up north was shrouded in dim, yellowish lights.
Brandon wore a wool coat, his tall, lean frame exuding an air of refined nobility in the darkness.
He moved toward the villa, quietly keeping an eye on everything around him.
The row of villas had mediocre landscaping and felt pretty empty. As Brandon walked, he couldn’t help but frown.
He finally stopped in front of the villa. The whole place was completely dark, not a single light anywhere.
‘Is she already asleep, or did she go out?’ Brandon wondered.
He stood at the door, unsure if he should knock. Strangely, he felt a little nervous.
He checked the time under the faint glow. It was already past 1 a.m. ‘She must be asleep by now,’ he thought.
Brandon lingered for a moment, let out a self-deprecating chuckle, and turned to leave.
‘When did I actually start caring about her?’ Brandon wondered, surprised at himself.
Something felt off inside him. An almost uncontrollable urge to see her, to just knock on her door and make sure she was safe, no matter what.
‘What is this feeling? Is it concern? Or something more?’ he thought.
Brandon had been sent abroad to study ever since middle school.
In high society, grooming an heir was a ruthless process. They had to instill a predatory instinct in him, yet teach him to mask it with noble refinement.
Calm restraint was etched into his very being, and refined composure became his trademark.
It wasn’t until his daughter was born that he truly understood the happiness of being a dad.
Now, he found himself developing unexpected feelings for his wife, something he’d never felt before.
Brandon’s frown deepened, his back stiffening as he disappeared into the darkness.
In Seavale, Brianna woke up a little after 10 a.m. After a full night’s rest, all her fatigue had vanished.
She got up slowly, washed up, and carefully applied her makeup. Seeing her radiant reflection in the mirror, Brianna’s spirits soared.
Brianna thought about texting Clair to let him know she’d arrived in Seavale.
But then it hit her. If Clair knew she was here, he’d probably drop everything just to hang out with her. She didn’t want to trouble him, and with the award ceremony still a few days away, she figured she’d hold off on

reaching out for now.
After ordering some takeout, she fired up her tablet and started browsing for fun things to do around town.
After lunch, Brianna headed over to the trendy Yansy Road, a street packed with indie designer boutiques offering everything from clothes to jewelry.
She grabbed a cab and hopped from one boutique to another, soaking in all the designers’ unique vibes. It sparked tons of inspiration for her.
After hours of boutique-hopping, Brianna finally felt worn out. She ordered a hot chocolate and found a spo on a bench by the street, quietly watching the stream of people passing by.
Brianna felt a long-lost sense of ease and joy, as if she was the only person left in the world.
It wasn’t until the afternoon that she headed back downtown and chose a vegetarian restaurant called Blessings & Grace.
The place was infused with a tranquil, Zen atmosphere. As she stepped inside, the soft melodies of silk and bamboo instruments created a serene, elegant mood. The dishes were light and flavorful, not like other vegetarian spots that try to imitate meat, but instead preserved the original fresh flavors of the vegetables.
After more than two hours, Brianna finished her meal and was about to leave the restaurant.
As she rounded the screen, she caught a glimpse of a familiar figure out of the corner of her eye. She looked closer and realized it was Darcy.
‘No wonder she’s a celebrity. She really stands out in a crowd,’ Brianna thought to herself.
Darcy was dressed in a black turtleneck, her hair elegantly pulled back, savoring her meal with effortless grace.
Across from her sat a refined middle-aged man wearing gold-rimmed glasses.
Brianna didn’t think much of it and simply turned to leave the restaurant.
Tristan had mentioned yesterday that Darcy was in Seavale too. ‘Seriously, what are the odds? I keep bumping into familiar faces in this city, Brianna thought to herself.
Back at the hotel, after freshening up, Brianna pulled out her laptop and started jotting down all the ideas she’d had while shopping earlier.
Just as she was busy typing away, her phone rang.
It was Caroline, her grandma.
“Hello, Grandma,” Brianna answered.
“Brianna, where are you?” her grandma asked, her voice tinged with worry.
Brianna’s heart skipped a beat. ‘I’m on a business trip. What’s wrong?’ she asked quickly.

“Mrs. Levy said you’re pregnant. Is that true?” her grandma asked anxiously.
Hearing that, Brianna let out a sigh of relief.

“Yeah,” she replied, feeling a pang of guilt. Honestly, she had no clue how to break it to her grandma.
“Weren’t you planning to get divorced? How come you’re expecting a second child now?” Caroline grumbled, clearly frustrated.
She really didn’t want Brianna to end up stuck in a miserable marriage like her mom, trapped for a lifetime.
“It was an accident,” Brianna admitted, feeling uneasy and a little embarrassed.
“What on earth is this? So what are you going to do now?” Caroline pressed.
“I’m not planning to keep the baby. Don’t worry, I’ll take care of it,” Brianna said, cutting the conversation short.
“Alright, alright, I support you,” Caroline said firmly, then sighed. “Well, it’s still a life after all.”
Brianna’s heart ached for a moment. “Grandma, let’s talk when I get back. I’m really busy right now,” she said quickly.
“Alright, just take care of yourself,” Caroline said.
Brianna hung up quickly and sighed, feeling lost and powerless.
She tried to get back to work, but her mind just wouldn’t cooperate. She was too restless and frustrated to focus.
She shut her laptop, put on her headphones, and flopped onto the bed, just wanting to zone out for a while.
Suddenly, she could’ve sworn she heard something at the door.
She took off her headphones and strained to listen. There was definitely a soft, shuffling noise at the door, like someone was messing with the lock, maybe swiping a keycard.
Brianna was instantly on edge. She walked out of the bedroom, stood in the living room, and raised her voice, “Who’s there?”
The shuffling at the door suddenly went silent.
Just as she was about to call the front desk, the sound of a keycard swiping came again, and then the card reader started beeping loudly.
“Who’s there?” Brianna shouted, stepping closer to the door, her heart racing.
But then, the noise stopped again.
Brianna rushed back to the living room and found the front desk number on the coffee table.

“Hello? Someone’s messing with my door using a keycard. Could you send someone up to take a look?” Brianna said, her voice shaky.
“Yes, ma’am, security will be right there,” the front desk replied.
The noise at the door had stopped, but Brianna’s heart was still pounding so hard it felt like it might burst out of her chest.
‘This is a five-star hotel, security’s top-notch. Maybe it was just someone who got the wrong room, she tried to reassure herself.
A few minutes later, someone knocked on the door, making Brianna’s heart skip a beat.
“Who is it?” Brianna called out, her voice trembling.
“Hello, ma’am, I’m the hotel manager on duty. Are you alright?” a man’s voice responded.
Brianna peeked through the peephole and saw a man in a suit standing with a few security guards in uniform. Only then did she finally relax.
She opened the door, and the manager looked genuinely apologetic.
“I’m so sorry, ma’am. You must have been scared. We checked the security footage, and it turns out it was just a guest from another room who was drunk and got the wrong door,” the manager explained.
Then, the manager pulled out his phone and played the hallway footage from earlier for her.
In the video, the guy was stumbling all over the place, barely able to stand. He was obviously wasted.
Brianna let out a sigh of relief and gave a nod.
“To make it up to you, we’ll give you half off your room tonight,” the manager said, still looking apologetic. “Sure, thanks.” Brianna nodded, then headed back to her room and locked the door again.
After that little incident, Brianna’s mind just wouldn’t settle down. She lay awake in bed for a long time, sleep nowhere in sight.
‘Should I just switch hotels tomorrow?’ she wondered.
But then she thought, ‘I’m just being paranoid. It was just some drunk guy who got the wrong room. No need to freak out.’
Little did Brianna know, letting her guard down tonight had left a hidden risk lurking in her trip to Seavale.
