Chapter 140 Tristan’s Joke
Brianna had lost all interest in shopping. After thinking it over for a while, she decided she needed to let Tristan know what had happened.
She and Patsy found a restaurant, sat down, and called Tristan.
She gave him a quick rundown of what had happened, and Tristan kept apologizing, saying he wanted to come find them and asking for their address.”
After a moment’s thought, Brianna gave him the address.
Soon, Tristan showed up.
Patsy asked him, “Is there some conflict between you and Nancy? Otherwise, why does she keep causing trouble for you?”
That was when Tristan finally came clean with them.
He admitted he’d never wanted to marry Nancy in the first place. The engagement was something he got roped into. He even offered to make it up to her, but Nancy just wouldn’t accept it.
“No wonder,” Brianna scoffed, thinking men were really all the same. “The whole city was buzzing about your engagement, she moved in and stayed for ages, and now you say you never planned to marry her?”
Brianna thought Nancy was really getting the short end of the stick.
“Hey, Brianna, whose side are you on? Why are you siding with her instead of your own friend?” Tristan protested. “It only happened once, and Darcy drugged me, for real!”
It was so bitter that it was almost haunting.
Just thinking about it made him feel depressed. ‘Seriously, did I owe Brandon some huge debt in my life or what?’
Seeing Tristan looking like he was suffering in silence, Brianna’s anger cooled off a bit. She said, “Whatever drama you two have, that’s your problem. Just tell her to stop messing with me.”
“Alright, boss!” Tristan flashed a cheeky grin as soon as he saw her mood lighten.
He said he’d take them shopping to make it up to them, and that was when they mentioned they were actually out looking for a gift for Brandon’s mother.
“Fine! I really do owe Brandon big time!” Tristan grumbled, looking totally fed up. “I just bid on a painting in Port City. Should I give it to you?”
Brianna waved him off. “You should keep it.”
‘If I take it, Nancy will just come after me again, she thought.
“There’s a racing event this weekend. Want to go?” Tristan asked.
“No way! Go ask your fiancée!” Patsy rolled her eyes.
Tristan couldn’t help but frown. This damn engagement is like treating me as some kind of ghost!
Just as they were chatting, someone’s familiar voice broke in. “Hey, Ms. Meyers! Fancy seeing you here.”
Brianna looked up and saw Allison, with Kane standing next to her.
“What a coincidence,” Brianna said, standing up and greeting them with a handshake.
Tristan knew Kane, so he stood up with a grin. “What brings you to Klamdiff, Mr. Flynn?”
Kane glanced at Allison, and honestly, he couldn’t take his eyes off her. But he replied, trying to keep it formal, Just here to keep a friend company.”
Since they weren’t that close, Tristan resisted the urge to crack any jokes or winks, and said seriously, “You’re a lucky man. Mr. Flynn.”
After exchanging greetings, Allison and Kane left.
Tristan squinted, “Man, she looks familiar. Haven’t I seen her somewhere before?”
“Probably on the news,” Brianna replied, a hint of jealousy in her voice. “She’s a famous international human rights lawyer
“Oh?” Tristan couldn’t help but glance back. “Is she the one who got Brandon off the hook?”
“Yeah,” Brianna nodded, glancing over at Allison. She just shines, so full of energy.
“Why is Kane always in Klamdiff these days?” Patsy asked.
“Allison’s the chief legal counsel at Brandon’s company,” Brianna replied.
“What?” Tristan’s voice shot up, half teasing. “Is that guy back to his old habits again?”
He grabbed Brianna’s hand with a mischievous grin, playfully acting like a shameless flirt. “You know what they say. A leopard never changes its spots. Don’t trust him. How about this. You divorce him, and we finally become a couple. That’ll really drive Nancy and her mother crazy!”
They both laughed so hard they were nearly doubled over, and Brianna was laughing so much she almost had tears in her eyes.
“What’s got you all laughing so hard?” A cool voice suddenly spoke up behind them.
Brianna and Patsy left the restaurant, hit the elevator button, and waited for Tristan to catch up.
In less than two minutes, Tristan came dashing over, practically a whirlwind.
Just as the three of them reached the parking lot, Brianna’s phone rang. It was Brandon.
“Have you left already?” Brandon asked.
“Yeah, what’s up?” Brianna replied.
“I’m having dinner with some business partners. I thought you might swing by and make an appearance. If you’re already gone, never mind,” Brandon said coolly.
“Okay,” Brianna said, then hung up.
She hadn’t driven, and Tristan offered her a ride, but Brianna hurriedly refused. She really didn’t want to risk any drama with Nancy and her mother.
Seeing her keep her distance, a flicker of hurt flashed in Tristan’s eyes. “Alright, guess I didn’t really want to go that far anyway.”
Patsy gave Brianna a ride home, and as they chatted in the car, Patsy suddenly brought up Allison. “Why would she go work for Brandon?”
“Hmph!” Brianna scoffed. “Probably because Brandon’s lust is acting up again.”
Patsy just chuckled.
“Seriously, you should keep your guard up. Allison’s not like Darcy. She’s no bargain-bin flirt.”
Brianna kept quiet. ‘Honestly, keeping Brandon close just isn’t something I care about, Still, Allison is already a renowned international human rights lawyer, why will she sign on as chief legal counsel at Levy Group? I just can’t wrap my head around it.’
Is it really for Brandon?’ she wondered. Then why is she always hanging out with Kane?’
‘If she’s really doing it for Levy Group, then why did she step in to bail Brandon out of that mess?”
When Brianna got home, she freshened up, grabbed her laptop, and flopped onto her bed.
She started digging up everything she could find on Allison like her background, her achievements, the whole deal.
Allison came from a great family, had a top-notch education, and was insanely talented. She was basically perfect.
‘Maybe I’m just thinking too much into all this?’ Brianna thought to herself.
