The Years Between Signing and Seeing novel Chapter 512

Suzie took a deep breath, trying to steady her racing heart. After a moment, she glared at him. "Jamie, what exactly are you trying to do?"

"I want to pursue you."

Suzie: "..."

Before she could process that, Jamie leaned in even closer. His breath brushed against her ear as he murmured, "Let's pretend the past never happened. From this moment on, I am going to pursue you, Suzie. Formally. Openly. Earnestly. And I won't stop until you say yes to marrying me."

Suzie: "..."

She was completely paralyzed by his words.

They had crossed paths a few times recently and exchanged plenty of words, but he had never stated his intentions so bluntly. He had just been lingering around, trying to explain things.

But now...

The deep, magnetic resonance of his voice faded from her ear, immediately replaced by the soft, warm press of his lips against her cheek.

By the time her brain registered the kiss, he was already walking toward the door.

He paused at the threshold, glancing back over his shoulder. "You should head to the dinner. Don't keep your guests waiting."

Without another word, he walked out.

Suzie finally snapped out of her daze. She sprinted to the door and yelled down the hall, "Take your things with you!"

But her words only echoed in the empty corridor; his car was already speeding away.

Suzie let out a heavy sigh, stepping back into the room. She stared at the expensive gifts left behind, her brow furrowed in deep frustration.

...

That seat was supposed to be for Chester.

When Stella had been in trouble recently, Chester had worked tirelessly to help them find a solution. Even though this dinner was for her studio's grand opening, Suzie had been going out of her way to show Chester her deep appreciation.

Suzie placed her hand on the doorknob, but Mia quickly stopped her. "Suzie, I really don't think it's a good idea to kick him out right now."

"Why not?" Suzie whispered back, straightening up.

Mia leaned in close to her ear. "Look at the table. Aside from Mr. Wycliffe's group, the people sitting near Stella are the executives she brought over from her old company to DC Entertainment. If you publicly kick him out, he's going to lose face in front of his own employees. With his temper... what if he takes it out on Stella at work?"

Suzie weighed Mia's words carefully. After a moment of hesitation, she sighed. "Which room are our studio employees in? I'll just go eat with them..."

Before she could finish her sentence, the double doors were suddenly pulled open from the inside.
