Jamie slowly sat down next to her, his expression softening as he tried to offer comfort. "I believe her too," he said gently. "But right now, all the evidence is stacked heavily against her..."
"Evidence? I despise that word," she snapped, her brow furrowing deeply, her tone sharp with frustration.
Without waiting for a response, she stood up abruptly. The anxiety was radiating off her in waves. Taking a few deep breaths to steady herself, she grabbed her purse and practically sprinted toward the door.
Jamie immediately went after her. But just as he reached the corridor, he saw Oliver Cross hurrying in their direction.
Suzie came to a halt when she saw him. They exchanged a few quick words before turning together, their expressions grim, and heading straight for the elevators.
Jamie stopped in his tracks. He stood there for a long time, his eyes dark and unreadable as he watched them disappear down the hall, before finally forcing his feet to move.

As Suzie and Oliver rushed toward the parking garage, she glanced at him. "How did you know I was here?"
"Stella called me yesterday and told me they found you," he explained. "She said you had a high fever and promised to update me once you were settled in a room. But the call never came. Later, I couldn't even reach her. I asked Mia, but she just told me you needed to rest. She only gave me the hospital details this morning."
Suzie frowned. Mia must have worried that if Oliver showed up yesterday, it would cause a massive scene with Jamie.
They managed to meet with a couple of them on their lunch breaks, but no one had any concrete details. After grabbing a quick bite, they waited until the local law firms opened for the afternoon, secured an attorney, and rushed straight to the precinct.
It was already past three by the time they walked in. They explained the situation to the officer at the desk, who simply told them to take a seat and wait in the lobby.
Suzie paced back and forth, practically buzzing with anxiety. Oliver watched her, feeling just as frustrated. He wasn't naive to the corporate world; usually, a company would run a quiet internal audit first. Only when they had rock-solid proof of massive embezzlement would they involve the police. Building a case against an employee for financial fraud took time.
How had they moved to an arrest so incredibly fast?
