Jamie had only hesitated for a few seconds before ordering Aaron to tail Oliver's car.
Coincidentally, Jamie had wanted to watch the kids' shoot over the weekend, and to avoid drawing attention, he had taken a different car than his usual ride.
Because of that, Suzie and Oliver hadn't noticed they were being followed.
But halfway there, when Suzie unexpectedly pulled over, Jamie ordered Aaron to do the same and waited patiently in the backseat.
When Oliver arrived in a rush, spoke to Suzie through her window, and then she got into his car...
Jamie's expression instantly darkened into pure ice.
When Suzie got in but the car didn't move, Jamie had Aaron pull up just far enough to get a clear view into Oliver's vehicle.
And then he saw Oliver reach out and stroke Suzie's hair.
The moment Aaron saw that happen, he took a massive risk and immediately hit the central lock, trapping Jamie in the back.
Even as Jamie lost his temper, demanding to be let out, Aaron kept the doors locked tight.
Risking his entire career, Aaron practically begged Jamie to stay put, warning him that if he stormed out there now, all their progress would go up in smoke.
Desperate to get through to him, Aaron threw hard facts at his boss.
He reminded Jamie that their investigations had proven that since the funeral, Suzie and Oliver hadn't seen each other alone. There was no romantic relationship there.
Furthermore, at the funeral, Suzie had worn black and mourned the old woman as her goddaughter, not as some future daughter-in-law.
If something were going to happen between them, it would have happened years ago...
...
Oliver soon parked in front of a newly built apartment complex.
Suzie looked out the window, hesitating. "I remember hearing that Chloe lived abroad. Did they sell their old place? Is this a new purchase?"
Oliver nodded. "From what I found, they had two properties, but they sold both. Not sure why."
"Where is Chloe?" Suzie asked. "Did you find any trace of her?"
Oliver shook his head. "Years ago, Margaret faked your death because the Lockwoods realized Chloe wasn't their biological daughter and came looking for the Sterlings. If you hadn't run away back then, and if the baby swap was real, Margaret would likely still be rotting in a jail cell."
Suzie stared blankly. If she truly was a Lockwood, then she and Chloe were literally bound by the cruelest twist of fate imaginable.
