The Year I Stopped Being His novel Chapter 153

Harrison stood to the side, watching the scene in silence.

Diego shook his head and let out a heavy sigh. "Man, I never saw this coming... I really thought she was just an innocent kid... I had no idea she was out to kill us..."

"And Coach Jensen—no, Lucas... I can't believe he was Lilah's brother and an assassin. But... but just a few hours ago, he was singing with us..."

"Yeah."

Looking at the two bodies locked in a tight embrace, Sloane felt a pang of profound sorrow. "Maybe it all comes down to a single moment of choice," she murmured.

"Don't look at them, Sloane."

Josh grabbed her hand and pulled her away. "They brought this on themselves."

The group quickly dug out their expedition tools and some supplies from the surrounding snowbanks. Thankfully, the most crucial sampling equipment and the emergency kits had survived.

Once they climbed back into the snowcat, a heavy silence blanketed the cabin.

The vehicle was dead.

The engine had completely failed, and all external communication arrays were busted. Now, they were stranded in the endless frozen wasteland without a ride, without a signal, left only with the supplies they carried and the jagged peaks stretching into the distance.

Diego looked over. "Professor, what's the play here?"

Harrison didn't answer immediately.

He turned his head and looked at Sloane.
