The Wife he threw Away (Claire and Lucian) novel Chapter 292

Lucian stared at me.

I had never seen him look so completely lost. His fingers tightened around the ultrasound photograph.

“You’re…” His voice cracked.

He swallowed, and tried again. “You’re pregnant?”

I nodded. “Six weeks.”

His eyes dropped to the photograph again.

“Six weeks,” he repeated.

I watched the realization slowly settle over him.

The man who could negotiate billion-dollar deals without blinking suddenly looked like he had forgotten how to form a sentence.

“Six weeks,” he said again.

I laughed softly through my tears. “Yes.”

Lucian looked at me again.

And then something happened that I had never expected.

A tear slipped down his cheek.

My heart shattered. I had never seen Lucian cry. “Lucian…”

He quickly wiped it away, almost embarrassed. “I don’t…” He laughed softly. “I don’t even know why I’m crying.”

I stepped closer. “I think it’s because you’re happy.”

He stared at me, then he pulled me into his arms.

I barely had time to laugh before my feet left the ground.

“Lucian!” I screamed.

He spun me around once.

“I’m going to be a father!”

I laughed. “Yes.”

“I’m going to be a father.”

“You are.”

He set me down only long enough to cup my face between his hands.

Then he kissed me.

It wasn’t rushed. It wasn’t desperate.

The kiss was full of disbelief. Of joy and love.

He pulled away and rested his forehead against mine. “I can’t believe this.”

“Neither can I.” He looked down at my stomach, then back at me. “You’re really carrying our baby.”

I nodded.

His eyes filled with tears again. “You have no idea what this means to me, Claire.”

I smiled. “I think I do.”

“No.” He shook his head. “You don’t.”

He took a shaky breath, then took both my hands in his. “I spent so long believing that this would never happen.”

His voice trembled. “I thought I had lost the chance to have this.”

“Me too.” I squeezed his fingers. “But we didn’t.”

“No.” He smiled. “We didn’t.”

Then he pulled me into another hug. This time, he held me more carefully—as though I had suddenly become something impossibly fragile.

“I’ll protect you, I promise,” he said.

I looked up at him.
