Chapter 735
The sudden ringtone shattered the heavy, suffocating atmosphere in the room.
Nathalie rejected the call and immediately opened her message thread with Freddy.
Nathalie: *Is everything okay?*
Freddy: *Sophia mentioned you were back in town, but she said you had an accident. Nathalie, are you free to meet up?*
Nathalie: *Okay.*
Freddy: *I’ll come pick you up.*
Nathalie didn’t decline. She backed out of the chat and switched over to her text-to-speech
app.
She stared at the block of text she had previously typed out for Lance, her thumb hovering over the backspace key. Slowly, she deleted it word by word, replacing it with a new
message.
The robotic female voice echoed in the quiet room. “I have some errands to run. I’m heading out for a bit. I’ll have someone come keep you company.”
With that, she slipped her phone into her pocket, turned on her heel, and walked out of the master bedroom.
Lance sat completely still, listening to the soft thud of her retreating footsteps, a profound loneliness radiating from him.
What was she going to say?
What was the message she had originally typed out?
He had heard the distinct sound of her deleting it before drafting the new one.
Was she going to reject him? Or was it something else entirely?
The agonizing uncertainty tied his stomach in knots, yet he couldn’t help but feel a twisted sense of gratitude for the perfectly timed phone call. At least this way, his ‘death sentence’ was delayed just a little bit longer.
Freddy arrived at the gates of Lumina Grand and shot Nathalie a quick text.
Nathalie was downstairs, just finishing letting Adelaide know she was heading out.
Elara popped her head around the corner, eyes gleaming with curiosity. “Where are you sneaking off to?”

Nathalie quickly typed her reply “Just meeting a friend”
Elara pouted playfully. Fine, fine But hurry back! I’ll miss you while you’re gone.”
Nathalie offered a warm smile, nodded, and headed for the door.
Sneaking to the front window, Elara peeked through the blinds and watched Nathalie climt into a sleek car. As the passenger door opened, she caught a glimpse of the man behind wheel-handsome, refined, wearing glasses that gave him an incredibly sophisticated auta
Elare spun around and sprinted back to Adelaide, practically buzzing with excitement. ‘Grandma, I think Nathalie has a new romantic prospect! This incredibly gorgeous guy just came to pick her up
Adelaide shook her head in fond exasperation. “Stop obsessing over everyone else’s love and go find a nice boy for yourself
Elara crinkled her nose. No thanks. Sounds exhausting”
“You don’t have to marry them, Adelaide teased smoothly. ‘But a little romance does wonders for a woman’s health. It’s good for the soul-and the body.”
Elara blinked, thoroughly impressed. ‘Wow, Grandma, you are so ahead of the curve. Actuall there’s some truth to that in holistic medicine… balancing the yin and yang energies. I might have to consider it.
She rubbed her chin, suddenly deep in thought.
Adelaide merely chuckled, finding the young doctor absolutely delightful. Having such a vibrant, chaotic force of nature around was exactly what Nathalie needed. Some of that joy was bound to rub off on her.
In the car, Freddy looked at Nathalie with undisguised concem. “What exactly happened to you?”
Nathalie typed on her phone, and the robotic voice answered. “I was poisoned. It ruined my Evocal cords.”
Raw heartache flooded Freddy’s eyes. “That must have been agonizing.”
Nathalie paused, touched by his immediate empathy. She forced a small smile and shook her head reassuringly.
Let’s head to the restaurant, Freddy said softly. “We can talk more once we’re settled.”
“Okay
As they drove, Freddy took advantage of a red light to send a quick text. A moment later, he looked over at her. “I have a close friend who is a top-tier specialist in this field. Do you want
me to have him take a look at you?”
