Chapter 698
“Why not?”
Chapter 698
Madonna looked completely baffled.
Lance leaned back against the headboard, his face a perfect mask of indifference. “I’m used to living at Lumina Grand.”
Madonna scowled at him, but eventually let out a defeated sigh. “Fine. If you won’t come home, then I’ll just move into Lumina Grand with you. Lance, I won’t be able to sleep at night unless I’m keeping an eye on you.” “Okay.”
Lance didn’t argue.
He turned his head toward the doorway and asked, “Where’s Nathalie?”
Madonna’s voice immediately turned to ice. “I don’t know. I haven’t seen
her.”
Elara caught the subtle shift in Madonna’s demeanor, her curiosity peaking.
It seemed like Madonna really didn’t like Nathalie, did she?
But why?
Elara turned her attention back to her acupuncture kit. “Alright, let’s get started. From today on, we’re doing this twice a day. One session to flush the toxins, and one to repair the nerve pathways.”
Lance nodded his consent.
Madonna watched Elara work, her eyes softening with genuine. admiration. “Ellie, you’re really becoming a master at this.”
Elara blushed, smiling sheepishly. “My parents passed down everything they knew. I can’t let their legacy go to waste.”
Chapter 698
Madonna sighed wistfully. “Sometimes I truly envy your parents. They were blessed with such an obedient, devoted daughter.”
Lance chimed in without missing a beat. “Mom, you’re still young. You and Dad could just try harder. Who knows, maybe you’ll pop out another one.”
Madonna’s face went crimson with rage. “Lance! What kind of nonsense are you spouting?!”
Lance shrugged casually. “Dr. Lane is right here. If your health needs a boost, I’m sure she can whip up a prescription for you.”
Madonna snapped her mouth shut.
This infuriating son of hers lived just to spike her blood pressure!
Elara practically tried to melt into the floorboards, desperately trying to erase her own presence. Even she wasn’t dense enough to miss the explosive tension between mother and son.
The dynamic in this family was beyond bizarre.
Nathalie was outside typing out a message to her great-grandmother.
The crisp evening breeze swept through the hospital’s private courtyard, carrying a slight chill. She kept her eyes glued to her screen; lost in a
daze.
They were heading back to Cabinda soon.
How was she going to break the news to the old woman that she couldn’t speak?
Once she admitted that, the rest of the secrets would spill out like a
cracked dam.
Her great-grandmother was already so old. Was it really fair to burden her with this kind of terror and heartbreak?
Chapter 698
Nathalie couldn’t stomach the thought.
She let out a heavy breath, looking up at the twilight sky.
A few seconds later, the distinct click of high heels approached her.
She turned to see Madonna walking over, her gaze icy and hostile.
Nathalie tightened her grip on her phone and stood up.
“Sit down.”
Madonna took a seat on the bench beside her, keeping a very deliberate distance. “I know you were caught in the crossfire too. How is your recovery going?”
Nathalie quickly typed out a response, the robotic voice slicing through the quiet air. “I’m fine.”
Madonna flinched slightly, clearly unnerved by the synthetic sound. She scowled at Nathalie. “What exactly are your plans now? After all that insane drama, are you seriously telling me you aren’t going to divorce Lance?”
Nathalie nodded once.
Madonna’s scowl deepened into a fierce glare. “To be perfectly honest, I fully supported the divorce. I want you two as far away from each other as humanly possible.”
Nathalie didn’t respond. She just stared at her lap, her face draining of color.
“You’ve dragged my son down way too many times. He has practically died for you on multiple occasions,” Madonna said brutally, not breaking eye contact. “You don’t even love him, yet you refuse to let him go. I truly do not understand how your mind works.”
