Sophie Foster’s face was flushed red with anger.
Thea York was speechless for a few seconds. Her smile faltered as she said with difficulty, "Estelle... that’s not what I meant. I never said any of those things. Sophie is just spouting nonsense as usual."
Estelle Lockwood smiled sweetly. "So, Miss Foster, are you admitting that you’re just being petty?"
Sophie Foster had imagined Estelle Lockwood was a thief, but she wasn’t. So Sophie held a grudge against Estelle and went around telling everyone she was about to be abandoned. If that wasn’t being petty, what was?
How could Sophie Foster admit to that? Her eyes widened. "Thea!! You were the one who said it! I... I don’t even know Estelle Lockwood that well. Why would I make things up about her behind her back? Thea, did you forget? You were the one who called me the day before yesterday and told me..."
"Sophie, that’s enough!"
Thea York’s tone turned stern, and she accused her self-righteously, "I can’t believe you’re this kind of person, trying to drive a wedge between me and Estelle!"
"If I hadn’t been here today, would your scheme have succeeded? I would have become the woman you describe, the mistress trying to usurp the main wife! Sophie, I’ve never done anything to wrong you. Why are you trying to frame me like this?"
Sophie Foster was completely stunned.
Estelle Lockwood felt like applauding.
’Thea York’s selective amnesia is acting up again. Just a few days ago, she secretly took Sophie Foster’s bracelet, and now she’s claiming, ’I’ve never done anything to wrong you.’ Tsk, tsk, tsk.’
Sophie Foster stared at the self-righteous Thea York, her expression dazed. She couldn’t seem to believe those words had come from the mouth of the Thea she trusted most. "Thea..."
"Sophie, apologize!" Thea York was growing anxious. ’I have to force Sophie to take a stand now,’ she thought, ’it’s the only way to completely distance myself from those rumors.’
’But what would happen to Sophie Foster? What does that have to do with me? It’s just Sophie’s bad luck.’
’Sophie Foster has treated me as a friend all these years. It would be her honor to sacrifice herself for a friend.’
Thea York pressed her. "Sophie, say something!"
Sophie Foster was indeed a fool, but at this point, how could she not see that Thea York was trying to push her out to take the fall?
She was incredulous. "Thea, how could you be so cruel..."
Thea York turned her head. "Nathaniel, you see? This was all Sophie... As her friend, I’d like to plead for her. For my sake, please don’t take action against the Foster Family, alright? Sophie is just young and naive..."
When Sophie Foster heard the words "Foster Family," her lips suddenly trembled.
She knew this was Thea York’s way of hinting at her.
If she took the blame now, Thea York could still plead for her, and perhaps Mr. Sloan wouldn’t do anything to the Foster Family.
But if she insisted on arguing with Thea York, the York Family alone could crush her Foster Family!
Thea York’s meaning was clear: she was destined to take the fall!
’Why should I!’
But no matter how furious Sophie Foster was, for the sake of her parents, she could only grit her teeth, tears in her eyes, and say, "Yes, it was all me. I was talking nonsense. It’s my fault. Thea York, are you satisfied now!?"
Thea York shook her head helplessly, her smile forgiving, as if looking at a younger sister who had made a mistake. "Nathaniel, you see? Sophie knows she was wrong. I’ll apologize to Estelle on her behalf."
Estelle Lockwood couldn’t help but nod. ’Just as I thought. An idiot like Sophie Foster is no match for a master manipulator like Thea York.’
’It was Thea York who told Sophie Foster everything. Sophie only came after me for Thea’s sake. Sophie was, at most, a messenger; the real source was Thea.’
’But now, Sophie Foster has been made out to be the ultimate villain, while Thea York has not only washed her hands of the matter but also earned herself a reputation as a kind, older sister.’
’How could she have it so good?’
Estelle Lockwood clicked her tongue and was about to speak when suddenly, Luke White came running over in a hurry—
"Sir, sir! Something’s happened!"
Estelle Lockwood instinctively turned her head and heard Luke White say, "Young Mr. Christian, he... he... He’s fighting with Mrs. York!"
The last time she’d brought Christian to the York Family home, she hadn’t succeeded in teaching him a lesson. This time, Mrs. York planned to use a different method.
She had obtained a set of silver needles from someone. The needles were extremely fine and wouldn’t leave a mark even if they pierced the skin.
’Christian Sloan likes to be a busybody, doesn’t he? Fine, I’ll teach him a good lesson today!’
’They’re just kids. All they can do is cry and fuss. Even if I abuse them, what can they do about it?’
’Estelle Lockwood just got lucky to have three children. If these three little bastards were dead, who could possibly stand in my daughter’s way!’
’But I’m a kind-hearted person. I won’t kill the three children. At most, I’ll just teach them a little lesson.’
So Mrs. York gave a waiter some money and had him bring "Christian Sloan" to her.
Zachery: "..."
’Hello, we meet again~’
Mrs. York’s heart clenched. ’Heh, you little mongrel, you can still smile? Don’t worry, you won’t be smiling for long!’
She laughed maliciously. "Look at you, a little mongrel dressed in finery. Nathaniel really spoils you. What a pity. In the end, you and that bitch of a mother will be kicked out with nothing. Everything Nathaniel has will belong to my daughter!"
Mrs. York had said similar things to the original Mrs. York of the York Family and to Stella York back in the day.
She felt extremely pleased with herself.
She looked down on him condescendingly. "I’m getting old and can’t stand the sight of blood, so I’ll be very kind and give you a few tens of thousands for child support. As for anything else, don’t even think about it!"
"It’s your bad luck that the three of you fell into my hands today. Don’t blame me. You can only blame Estelle Lockwood for raising you to be so naive..."
As Mrs. York spoke, she raised the silver needle to stab down viciously.
But she didn’t expect a sudden, sharp pain in her thigh. "Ah!"
