The Triplets My Ex Never Knew About novel Chapter 224

Chapter 224: Chapter 224: Old Mrs Sloan: I Never Said Which Daughter-in-Law

Old Mrs. Sloan was right. For a family like the Sloans, getting your hands on shares in the Sloan Group wasn’t so easy.

If you gave them to an ordinary person who knew nothing, no matter how many shares they had, they would be carved up and left with nothing. In a worst-case scenario, their life might even be in danger—it’s like a child carrying a priceless treasure. Who wouldn’t be green with envy?

Miranda Lancaster had been very thoughtful. She gave them to that friend of hers.

According to her, that friend was exceptionally talented and brilliant, also from a prominent family. He was resourceful, knowledgeable, and even skilled in medicine. Ethan Sloan was nothing compared to him. Moreover, the man was more than twenty years older than Ethan. Miranda felt at ease leaving the shares to someone so shrewd and capable.

But no one could have imagined that those shares would ultimately end up with Estelle Lockwood.

Had Miranda Lancaster even heard of Estelle Lockwood back then?

Estelle Lockwood, however, pondered for a moment before saying, "The friend you mentioned... that might have been my grandfather."

"That old coot from the Lockwood family?" Old Mrs. Sloan’s brow furrowed sharply.

Estelle choked for a second. Old Mrs. Sloan really was a character. She shook her head. "Not the one from the Lockwood family. The grandfather who adopted me. After I was abandoned by Rose Lowell, my grandfather found me, raised me, and even gave me my name."

’But Grandfather came from a prominent family?’ Estelle instantly thought of the Lockwood family.

It seemed her grandfather really was connected to the Lockwood family. At the very least, Miranda Lancaster had known it back then.

Only then did Old Mrs. Sloan nod. "So that’s how it is. That makes perfect sense. Miranda always had a mind of her own."

Old Mrs. Sloan had the two of them stay for a meal. As they were leaving, she said slowly,

"Nathaniel, when you have time, bring Christian and the others over for me to see. Oh, and also, throw a party for me."

Nathaniel Sloan wasn’t surprised by the first request. He had a feeling his grandmother had changed a lot, as if she’d come to terms with certain things.

As for the second request, he was momentarily confused, but he quickly understood.

Old Mrs. Sloan sighed. ’Whatever I say, Nathaniel understands. My son, on the other hand... Ugh, how did I end up with a son like Ethan Sloan?!’

...

Old Mrs. Sloan had been publicly declared to be in a coma and recuperating. But the moment she reappeared at the Sloan Group, she verbally eviscerated the board, giving both Ethan Sloan and Old Mr. Lancaster a vicious tongue-lashing.

And so, every prominent family in Crestfall’s high society learned one thing: Old Mrs. Sloan was awake.

The old matriarch sent out a flood of invitations, asking everyone to be guests at her manor. The reason given was that since she had just awoken, she wanted to gather people at the estate to liven it up and drive away the lingering air of sickness.

In her youth, this Old Mrs. Sloan had been a powerhouse in her own right. Many families knew she wasn’t someone to be trifled with. On top of that, the invitations were sent in Nathaniel Sloan’s name, so everyone would certainly pay him the respect of attending.

Two days later, the once-quiet manor was bustling with activity.

Estelle Lockwood entered through the main gate with her three little cubs and saw quite a few familiar faces from a distance.

Besides Thea York, she was surprised to see Laura Jennings there as well.

Nathaniel Sloan frowned. "I didn’t invite the York family." ’Let alone Laura Jennings.’

A knowing look flickered in Estelle Lockwood’s eyes. Old Mrs. Sloan’s return was a major event. It was only normal that some people couldn’t sit still and would find a way to sneak in.

’But Laura Jennings... The Sloan Group is in such chaos, and she’s still in the mood to attend a party?’

The manor was so vast that even the guests, who were all from prominent families, couldn’t help but be amazed.

The guests exchanged glances. "It’s not exactly a secret. Chairman Sloan... Chairman Sloan has mentioned it many times."

Besides, Chairman Sloan implied that the one who gifted the manor was Laura Jennings, and she never denied it.

"Oh, so it was my useless son who mentioned it. Well, he wasn’t wrong. The manor was a gift from my daughter-in-law."

Old Mrs. Sloan nodded, then a cold, mocking light entered her eyes. "But I never said *which* daughter-in-law."

The surroundings fell deathly silent. The person who had just spoken seemed to have been grabbed by the throat, instantly becoming as quiet as a mouse.

What... What did she mean?

Old Mrs. Sloan’s daughter-in-law... That’s right! Old Mrs. Sloan had another daughter-in-law, her proper, legitimate one—Ethan Sloan’s first wife, Miranda Lancaster!

Old Mrs. Sloan said mockingly, "You’re quite good at stealing credit, aren’t you, Laura Jennings? Since when did Miranda’s manor become yours? I don’t seem to recall."

Everyone turned to look at Laura Jennings in astonishment.

Laura Jennings’s face burned hot, and rage surged within her. She wanted nothing more than to rush up and slap Old Mrs. Sloan hard across the face, but she didn’t dare. All she could do was stand there, seething with impotent fury.

’This old crone, why does she have to run her mouth! Miranda is already dead! What’s wrong with me taking some of her credit? Why does she have to be so meddlesome? Even the Lancaster family has tacitly approved it! The dead are nothing, and the living are what matter most! Hasn’t she ever heard that?!’

Old Mrs. Sloan continued in a haunting tone, "I really don’t know what that Old Mr. Lancaster is thinking. A person like you, who probably wished Miranda would die sooner, and yet he doesn’t avenge his daughter. Instead, he gets along peacefully with you. Tsk. If I didn’t know any better, I’d think he hired you to kill his own daughter. Otherwise, how could you still be sitting in this position as Mrs. Sloan?"

Laura Jennings was furious. She felt the gazes of the people around her shift, filled with suspicion. She wanted to scream and throw a tantrum, but the next second, a security guard grabbed her firmly by the shoulders.

Old Mrs. Sloan seemed to ask casually, "If you’re willing to steal credit for the manor, what else have you stolen from Miranda? Nathaniel, what do you think?"
