The Silver Wolf (Diana and Talon) novel Chapter 187

Chapter One Hundred Eighty Seven

“Thank you, Diana.”

Ravenna’s voice was soft, almost fragile. For a long moment, she simply looked at the Silver Wolf standing before her, as though she could not quite believe what she had heard.

Hope was not something Ravenna had allowed herself to feel for a very long time. Hope had become dangerous. Every time she had reached for it, the curse had taken something from her. Her peace. Her future. Her faith that love would be enough to save Thorne.

Yet Diana’s words had opened the smallest crack in the hopelessness that had surrounded Ravenna for

months.

Perhaps there was another way. Perhaps this generation did not have to end as all the others had.

Ravenna wiped the tears from her cheeks, though more quickly replaced them.

“For thousands of years,” she began, “wolves and witches have tried to find a way to stop the curse.”

Diana remained beside her, still holding her hand. Talon stood close behind Diana, orte arm resting protectively around his mate’s waist. His expression was serious, his thoughts clearly turning over everything Ravenna had revealed.

Enzo remained near the door, listening silently. Ravenna took a slow breath.

“Unfortunately, nearly every solution our people created, involved death.”

Diana frowned.

“What do you mean?”

“The wolves believed that if every descendant of Gideon was destroyed, the curse would have no vessel to possess.”

Ravenna’s expression darkened.

“The witches believed the same about the Silver Wolf.”

A cold silence filled the office. Diana’s hand moved unconsciously over her stomach.

“So both sides tried to eliminate entire bloodlines.”

“Yes.”

Ravenna’s voice carried shame.

“Whenever signs appeared that a Silver Wolf might be born, some covens attempted to find the child before her first shift.”

Talon’s aura stirred dangerously.

“They killed pups.”

It was not a question. Ravenna lowered her eyes.

“Some did.”

Fenrir snarled inside Talon’s mind. Diana’s fingers tightened around Ravenna’s hand.

“And wolves hunted Gideon’s descendants?”

“Yes.”

“Even those who had never shown signs of dark magic?”

“Yes.”

Ravenna closed her eyes briefly.

“Innocent witches died because their blood might have carried a Connection to Gideon.”

Her voice trembled.

Claim

“Children were hidden. Families changed their names. Entire branches of bloodlines disappeared because they feared being discovered.”

Diana shook her head.

“And none of it stopped the curse.”

1

“No.”

Ravenna looked toward her.

“Because the curse does not require Gideon’s direct descendant. It does not have to pass from father to son or mother to daughter. As long as even the smallest trace of Gideon’s blood exists somewhere in a family line, the darkness can reach it.”

Diana’s brows furrowed.

“Even after thousands of years?”

“Yes.”

“A distant cousin?”

“Yes.”

“A family that may not even know they are connected to him?”

Ravenna nodded.

“Even then.”

Her pale eyes became distant as she remembered the records passed down through her people.

“The first vessel after Gideon was not related to him directly. Gideon never had children. He died without creating the family he had once dreamed of having with Agatha.”

Ravenna’s voice softened:

“But Gideon had relatives. Brothers. Uncles. Cousins. The first witch consumed by his darkness was the great-grandson of one of Gideon’s distant cousins.”

Diana stared at her.

“So the curse found someone who was barely connected to him.”

“Yes.”

“He did not even know Gideon’s story before the curse awakened inside him.”

Ravenna folded her hands over her lap.

“At first, he believed the dreams were his own. He saw Agatha leaving. He felt Gideon’s pain. He remembered Lucian as the wolf who had taken everything from him. By the time the White Witch of that generation found him, he no longer remembered which memories belonged to him and which belonged to Gideon.”

Diana felt a chill travel down her spine. The same thing was happening to Thorne. He believed Ravenna was Agatha. He believed Diana was the Silver Wolf who had stolen the woman meant for him. The curse did not merely control its vessel. It rewrote reality.

“And my bloodline?” Diana asked.

Ravenna looked at her more closely.

“You are the same.”

Diana tilted her head.

“You are not from Lucian’s main family line.”

Talon’s expression changed.

“The Royal Family is.”

“Yes,” Ravenna answered.

“Lucian’s oldest child eventually became the beginning of the royal bloodline.”

She looked toward Talon.

“Your ancestors inherited Lucian’s leadership, his strength, and his belief that wolves should never be forced to reject the mate chosen for them.”

Talon listened carefully.

“It was Lucian who first made the vow to the Moon Goddess.”

“What vow?” Enzo asked.

Ravenna turned slightly toward him.

Claim

That every ruler descended from Lucian would accept the mate given to them by fate. No political union would be placed above the rnate bond. No Alpha heir would be forced to reject their true mate for power, status, or alliance.”

Diana looked at Talon

“That is why the Royal Family treats the mate bond as sacred.”

Talon nodded slowly.

“My family has followed that law for generations.”

“Lucian created it,” Ravenna explained. “Because he knew what happened when families attempted to decide whom their children should love.”

The memory of Gideon hung heavily between them.

“Lucian believed that if Agatha and Gideon had been allowed to grow without everyone declaring them destined for one another, perhaps Gideon would have learned to accept that Agatha’s choice belonged to her.”

Dlāna sighed.

“He wanted to prevent another tragedy.”

“Yes.”

Ravenna’s expression softened.

“He spent the remainder of his life teaching wolves that the bond was a blessing, not ownership. That a mate was not property. And that even fate should never be used as an excuse to take away someone’s freedom.”

Talon’s arm tightened slightly around Diana, Ravenna looked toward her again.

“But your blood does not come from Lucian. It comes from one of the farthest branches of his family.”

Diana frowned.

“How far?”

“Far enough that no one would have expected the Silver Wolf to emerge from your line.”
