Chapter One Hundred Forty Six

The entire ceremonial hall fell into stunned silence. Blood stained the polished stone floor beneath Rafe, while every Alpha, Luna, Beta, Gamma, and Elder stared at Diana standing calmly before them.

Only Vanessa seemed incapable of processing what had just happened. Her chest rose and fell violently. Her eyes were fixed entirely on Diana. Not on Rafe. Not on the Elders. Not even on the blood soaking into the floor. Only Diana. Then something inside her snapped.

“You bitch!”

Her scream echoed through the hall.

“You took Talon from me…”

She pointed a trembling finger toward Diana.

“And now you almost killed my mate!”

Her breathing became ragged.

“Are you that jealous of me?”

Several Alphas exchanged confused looks. Even Elder Mirela frowned. Jealous? Diana blinked once. Then slowly tilted her head.

“Took Talon from you?” She almost sounded amused.

“Vanessa…” A small smile appeared on her face.

“Are you truly that delusional?” The words hit harder than a slap.

“Talon is my mate.” She reached for Talon’s hand without taking her eyes off Vanessa.

“Mine.” She intertwined their fingers.

“He has always been mine.” Her voice remained perfectly calm

“He was never yours.” Vanessa’s breathing became harsher.

“But what concerns me more…” Diana continued thoughtfully.

“… is why you’re still obsessed with my mate.” Her eyes narrowed.

“I thought Rafe was your mate.” Silence. Diana slowly looked from Vanessa… to the bleeding Rafe.

“…He is your mate…” She emphasized every word. “…isn’t he?”

Vanessa hesitated for only a fraction of a second. That hesitation did not escape Diana.

“Of course he is my mate!”

Vanessa answered quickly. Almost too quickly. Diana noticed. So did Talon. Even Elder Alaric quietly observed the exchange with growing interest.

Then answer me this.” Diana took one slow step forward.

“If Rafe truly is your mate… Why are you still looking at mine?”

Vanessa opened her mouth, No words came out. Diana’s expression hardened.

“I’ll make something very clear.”

Her Luna aura slowly spread through the hall. It wasn’t overwhelming like Talon’s Alpha King’s aura.

It was different. Elegant. Cold. Unyielding.

“If you take even one step toward Talon…” She smiled. “I will kill you.”

Gasps spread throughout the, room.

“I won’t hesitate. And before anyone decides to interfere…”

She slowly looked around the gathering.

“…every Alpha, Luna, and Elder here knows the law.” Her gaze settled back on Vanessa.

“A wolf has the right to kill anyone threatening their mate. No punishment. No trial. No consequences.”

A dangerous smile crossed Diana’s lips.

“I suggest you remember that.” She paused deliberately.

“Since you seem remarkably talented…at forgetting every law taught at Alpha School.”

Several nearby Alphas struggled not to smile. Even Damon looked away to hide his amusement. Vanessa’s entire face turned crimson. Whether from anger or humiliation… No one could tell.

Diana finally looked away from her. Instead – She looked down at Rafe. He remained on the floor, one hand desperately pressing against the wounds Artemis had left in his neck. His breathing was shallow. Painful.

“You know…”

Diana said almost conversationally.

“If you want to come after me… I’m ready.”

She shrugged lightly.

“Any time. But after what happened a few moments ago…” She smiled almost sympathetically.

“I think we’ve all learned something.” Her eyes gleamed. “You can’t beat me.”

The words landed like stones. Rafe’s entire body trembled.

“You-” His breathing became erratic.

“You bitch!” His wolf surged violently beneath his skin.

“I’ll kill you!” His voice echoed through the hall.

swear it! I’ll avenge my mate!”

Several wolves exchanged glances. Wasn’t Vanessa standing right there?

Rafe no longer seemed aware of his surroundings His hatred consumed everything.

“I won’t stop!” He struggled to sit upright despite his injuries.

“I won’t stop until you’re dead!” His finger pointed shakily toward Diana.

“You think your mate can protect you forever?” He laughed. The sound was almost insane.

“You’re nothing! Just a rejected wolf! I’ll kill you!” His face twisted with hatred.

“And what I did to your mate’s sister…” His lips curled into a cruel smile.

“… was nothing.” The entire hall froze.

“It was only the beginning. I promise you… I’ll make you suffer even more.”

Saliva flew from his mouth as he shouted. His eyes had become wild. Unfocused. Completely consumed by obsession. Diana simply watched him. Then she sighed.

“Have you finally lost your mind?” She sounded almost disappointed.

“When exactly did I ever need Talon to protect me?” She folded her arms.

“Not in Crimson Fang. Not in Black Howler. And certainly not here.” She gestured toward the destroyed ceremonial floor.

“You attacked me. I defeated you. Again.” Her smile became almost playful.

“I’m beginning to notice a pattern.”

A few warriors coughed awkwardly to hide their laughter. Rafe growled. Diana ignored him.

“And let me give you one final piece of information.” Her eyes became ice cold.

“If you don’t bleed to death today… You’ll be executed.” The room became utterly silent.

“For threatening the life of the Luna Queen. And for confessing attacking Willow.”

Rafe frowned.

“Confessing?” He blinked. “I confessed to nothing!”

Diana slowly looked toward the Elder Council.

“Elders.” Her voice was calm.

“Would you care to clarify?”

All four Elders stood together. For the first time since the ceremony began- They spoke with one voice.

“Yes, Luna.”

Their answer echoed throughout the hall. Elder Alaric stepped forward first.

“Former Beta Rafe… You have, before witnesses from every allied pack…publicly confessed.”

Rafe shook his head frantically.

“No! I admitted nothing!”

Elder Garrick’s expression hardened.

“You threatened the Luna Queen. You admitted attacking Lady Willow. You admitted intending to continue your attempts to assassinate the Luna Queen. You admitted your crimes.”

Rafe’s eyes widened.

“No… I didn’t-”

“You did.” Elder Mirela interrupted.

“Every wolf in this hall heard your words. There is no misunderstanding. No manipulation. No false testimony.”

She looked around the crowded hall.

“We have dozens of witnesses.”

Elder Rowan nodded.

“There is no escaping what you have admitted today.”/

Rafe looked desperately toward Vanessa. She looked just as pale. Then Diana smiled again.

“Don’t play dumb, Rafe.”
