The Silver Wolf (Diana and Talon) novel Chapter 139

Chapter One Hundred Thirty Nine

Talon, Diaria, Damon, and Willow entered the grand hall where Vanessa’s mating and Alpha ceremony was supposed to take place.

The hall was already crowded. Pack members-filled most of the seats while warriors lined the walls. At the front sat the Elder Council, their expressions serious and unreadable. Unlike the excited Stone Claw members, the elders looked more like judges preparing for a trial than honored guests attending a celebration.

Diana immediately noticed several familiar faces. Many of the allied packs had answered the invitation. Alphas. Lunas. Betas. Gammas. Pack representatives. Everyone wanted to witness the daughter of Alpha Charles and Luna Carla becoming the new Luna.

And everyone was curious about the mysterious male who would become Stone Claw’s new Alpha.

Diana’s eyes swept across the crowd carefully. No sign of Vanessa’s mate. Not yet.

“Still hiding,” Artemis growled.

“Yes.”

“And I don’t like it.”

“Neither do I.”

Before Diana could continue scanning the room, a familiar scent reached her. Crimson Fang. Diana looked up. And saw Alpha Asher walking toward them. The Alpha of Crimson Fang looked surprised to see them, but quickly recovered.

“Alpha King.”

He inclined his head respectfully.

“Luna Queen.”

His gaze lingered on Diana slightly longer than it should have. Not because he wanted her back. Diana knew that. Asher knew that.

But perhaps because every time he saw her now, he was reminded of everything he had lost. Of every

mistake he had made.

“Alpha Asher,” Diana greeted politely. “It is good to see you again.”

Before Asher could answer- an arm wrapped around Diana’s waist. Firmly. Possessively. Talon. Diana immediately closed her eyes.

Fenrir had awakened. Talon pulled Diana slightly closer until she was practically pressed against his side. His blue eyes locked onto Asher. Cold. Dangerously cold.

“I hope you are done looking at my mate, Alpha Asher.”

The surrounding wolves immediately went silent. Asher blinked.

Talon-

No

Talon’s voice was calm. Which somehow made it worse.

“Stop looking at my mate. Unless you want me to pull your eyes out and hand them back to you.”

Several nearby wolves immediately looked away. Diana pinched the bridge of her nose.

“Talon.”

Her warning came instantly. But Talon didn’t look away from Asher.

“He was staring at you.”

“No, he wasn’t.”

“He was.”

“Talon.”

“He was.”

Diana sighed. There was no winning when Talon or Fenrir became jealous.

“You are my mate,” Talon continued seriously. “I am the only male allowed to look at you that way.”

A dangerous pause followed.

“Anyone else dies.”

Asher immediately looked away. Specifically- toward Willow. Which turned out to be an even bigger mistake. Because now Damon stepped forward. The Rogue King wrapped an arm around Willow’s waist and pulled her against him.

“My mate is not available for staring either.”

Asher froze. Damon’s golden eyes narrowed.

“And unlike Talon, I won’t threaten. I’ll simply cut your throat.”

The silence that followed was almost impressive. Then Asher finally processed what Damon had said. His eyes widened.

He looked at Willow. Then Damon. Then Willow again. Then Damon. And finally realization struck.

“Rogue King!”

His voice came out much louder than intended. The wolves around them immediately turned. Several gasped. Others looked confused. Diana closed her eyes.

“Oh wonderful.”

Talon groaned.

“You not only have wärdering eyes.”

He pointed at Asher:

“You have a giant mouth too.”

Fenrir immediately approved.

“We should remove his head.”

Diana stepped forward.

“No.”

“Maybe just a little?”

“No.”

Asher looked horrified.

“I apologize!”

His gaze shifted rapidly between them.

“I did not know-”

“That Damon is Willow’s mate?” Diana supplied helpfully.

“Yes.”

Diana sighed.

“Neither does most of the room.”

Asher immediately looked like he wanted the floor to swallow him whole. Diana almost felt bad. Almost.

“Alpha Asher.”

Her voice softened.

“We would appreciate it if that information remained private for now.”

Asher nodded so fast his neck nearly snapped.

“Of course. My apologies, Luna Queen.”

Then he practically fled. Actually fled. The Alpha of Crimson Fang turned around and disappeared into the crowd faster than anyone thought possible.

Willow stared after him. Then burst out laughing. Diana joined her. Even Damon looked amused. Only Talon remained annoyed.

“Pest.”

“Talon.”

“You tou?”

“Especially me.

Damon looked completely serious.

“I spent all morning preparing myself for this.”

“For what?”

“For other males existing.”

Diana laughed so hard she nearly doubled over.

Talon pointed at Damon.

“See?”

“He understands.”

Willow looked toward Diana.

“We are surrounded by idiots.”

“Powerful idiots.”

“The worst kind.”

The two women laughed while Talon and Damon looked personally offended. Eventually Diana shook her

head.

“Enough.”

Her expression slowly became serious again.

“Focus.”

Immediately Talon sobered. The same happened to Damon. Because despite the jokes- despite the laughter- they had not forgotten why they were here.

“Are the elders already here?” Diana asked.

Talon nodded.

“Yes.”

He pointed toward the front of the hall. Diana followed his gaze. The Elders sat together near the ceremonial platform.

Watching. Observing. Waiting. None of them looked happy. Good. Diana preferred suspicious elders over careless ones.

“They’ve already started reviewing documents,” Talon said quietly.

“Vanessa is probably regretting inviting us.”

“Good”

Talon smiled.

A very dangerous smile.

Before Diana could respond, Willow spoke.

“Do you think Asher knows?”

The group immediately understood what she meant.

“About Rafe?”
