The Rose He Killed novel Chapter 274

Chapter 242: Pregnancy-2

Tom dropped the plastic dinosaur, his eyes going wide. “Are we getting a dog?”

“No, not a dog,” Bella smiled, taking his small hand. “There is a new baby growing inside Mummy’s tummy.

It is going to take a very long time, all through the summer, before the baby gets here. And Mummy is going to have to do a lot of sitting down and resting while we wait.”

Tom looked at her stomach, then looked up at her face. He frowned, thinking very hard.

“Can I pick the name?” Tom asked, leaning in close.

“We will discuss it,” Bella said. I knew that tone. It was her business voice for when she had no plans to let him choose a name alone.

Tom nodded fast, happy with that answer. Then he stood up on his knees, looking very serious. “I think Triceratops is a very good name.”

I had to turn my face toward the window, pressing my hand over my mouth to stop a loud laugh.

“As a name for a real baby,” Bella asked, keeping her voice steady, “or just for talking about?”

“For the baby!” Tom said, nodding his head up and down. “Babies have boring names. No babies are named Triceratops. I want to be the first big brother with a dinosaur baby.”

“We will discuss it, Tom,” Bella said, more firmly this time.

Tom seemed fine with that. He picked his plastic T-Rex back up and started making it roar at his blocks.

In the weeks after that night, everything changed. Bella got incredibly sick. When she was pregnant with Grace, she just needed crackers and ginger tea. This time, her body rejected everything. She threw up in the mornings, the afternoons, and the middle of the night.

I walked into the kitchen one afternoon and stopped. Bella was sitting at the table with her laptop open. Right next to her chair on the floor was a big red plastic bucket. Her face was pale, and her jaw was set tight.

“Don’t,” she said, before I could even take a step.

“I was not going to say anything,” I said, holding up my hands.

“You were looking right at the bucket, Caleb.”

“I was just going to say I love you,” I said, walking over to her. It was true, but I definitely had been looking

at the bucket.

She sighed, looking back at her screen. She was reviewing massive acquisition documents for Hart Worldwide. She was running a whole international business company from our kitchen chair, with a vomit bucket by her feet.

“How is the deal looking?” I asked, sitting across from her.

“Good,” she said, her fingers flying across the keys. “Better than good. I just need the directors in Paris to

stop assuming that because I am working from home, I am not paying attention.”

“Are they really doing that?”

“The acquisitions director tried it on our call this morning,” she said. A dangerous spark flashed in her eyes. “He thought he could slip a high percentage rate past me. He will not try that again.”

I reached across the table, took her hand away from the mouse, and held it tight.

“You are doing it again,” I said softly.
