Chapter 221: Tom Meets Sebastien-2
“I found out my sons came to see you, Sebastien said quietly. His voice carried a sudden weight, a mix of worry and deep regret. He looked up at me, his eyes searching my face for any signs of hurt. “I hope they didn’t tell you anything hurtful. I did not ask them to come, and I did not want them interfering in your life.”
I let out a slow breath, thinking about my intense meeting with Olivier, and then the surprisingly warm encounter with Enzo in my office. I kept my expression calm.
“No,” I lied softly, wanting to keep the peace. “They were very loving and nice.”
Sebastien stared at me for a long moment. He didn’t look convinced at all. He let out a short, heavy sigh and shook his head.
“I find it hard to believe,” Sebastien said honestly. “Especially for Olivier. I know how my oldest son thinks, Bella. He is fiercely protective of the family, and his temper can get the best of him. I know he can be harsh.” He paused, a small, sad smile touching his lips. “But… I can believe Enzo was nice. He is always the caring one. He has always had his mother’s heart.”
I shifted my weight, looking over at Tom, who was currently trying to pick up a very large stick. “Olivier was defensive,” I admitted, giving him a small piece of the truth. “But Enzo… Enzo actually stayed and talked to me, he made sure I was okay.”
Sebastien looked up at me, his eyes searching mine with a quiet intensity. He closed his eyes for a brief second, swallowing hard. When he opened them, the raw emotion in his face made me want to look away. He stood up from the bench, brushing a bit of park dust from his trousers.
“I know I have no right to expect anything from him. Or from you,” Sebastien said, his voice dropping to a rough whisper. “I am just grateful you let me sit in the dirt with him today. I am grateful you are talking to
me.”
“It’s fine,” I said, wanting to change the subject quickly to avoid any tense emotions.
I looked away toward the flower bed where Tom was happily examining a bug. “We should go check on that leaf,” I said quietly, gesturing toward Tom.
“Lead the way,” Sebastien said.
We stayed at the park for another hour before it was time to go. Tom showed Sebastien three more leaves, a particularly good stick, and a beetle he found under a stone. By the time we walked back toward the park gates, Tom was dragging his feet, completely worn out from his busy morning.
We stopped near the entrance as Tom looked up at Sebastien, his expression surprisingly sweet.
“It was nice meeting you,” Tom said, holding his water bottle tightly. “I hope we meet again.”
I laughed softly at how formal he sounded. “You will meet him again, sweetie.”
Tom’s eyes widened, and he looked up at me. “Mom, really?”
“Yes,” I said, smiling down at him.
Tom turned right back to Sebastien, his little face lighting up with an idea. “Can you invite him for my

1 paused, looking across at Sebastien. The sudden request caught me off guard, but seeing the quiet hope in Sebastien’s eyes made my chest soften as I asked, “Would you come?”
Sebastien’s smile was instant, deep and incredibly warm. “I would be honored to,” he said, his voice thick with genuine gratitude.
“Yaaahhh!” Tom cheered, doing a little victory hop on the pavement.
