Chapter 127: The Threat
Bella POV
Lena nodded. “She’s on the watch list. But she has limited verified activity in the city this week, which doesn’t rule her out – it just means if she’s behind this she’s using intermediaries.”
I looked at Caleb. “Or it isn’t her.”
He met my eyes. “That’s what I’m not sure about.”
After Lena left, we sat at the kitchen table with the quiet of the apartment around us – Tom’s show still murmuring from the other room, the city going dark outside.
I was turning the coffee mug in my hands, staring at nothing, when I felt Caleb move behind me. His lips pressed against the side of my neck before I could even react.
“Caleb,” I said, but I didn’t pull away. “Now is not the time.”
I felt him smile against my skin. “I know.”
He didn’t stop. His mouth moved slowly up my neck, kissing and sucking. His hands slid under my shirt from behind. His palms felt warm on my stomach, then moved higher. He cupped my breasts through my bra and rubbed his thumbs over my n*****s until they got hard and tight. I had to press my lips together to stay quiet.
“Tom is in the next room,” I whispered.
“I know.”
His teeth scraped the soft spot under my ear. I gripped the edge of the table tight. I could feel his hard
c**k pressing against my lower back. Heat started building between my legs.
“We’re supposed to be talking,” I managed.
“We were talking.” He nipped at my neck. “We can talk after.”
“After what exac”
す
His hand slid down my stomach and pushed inside my trousers before I could finish the sentence. I sucked in a sharp breath.
“Caleb”
“Shh.” His mouth was right at my ear.
His fingers found my p***y, he pushed two fingers inside me and started moving them in and out, slow and steady. His other hand stayed on my breast, still rubbing my n****e. His mouth kept kissing and biting my
neck.
I could hear Tom laughing at his show in the next room, just a few feet away with only a wall and an open doorway between us.
“Someone could” I started.

“No one is coming.” He curled his fingers inside me and hit that spot that made my legs shake. I bit my lip hard to keep from moaning. My hips started moving against his hand on their own.
“Look at me,” he said.
I turned my head. He kissed me deep and slow, his tongue pushing into my mouth, swallowing every sound I made. His fingers kept fucking me, steady and firm. The pressure built fast until my whole body tensed and I came hard, shaking against his hand, trying to stay completely silent.
He didn’t pull his fingers out right away. He let me calm down, kissing me softly, his other hand rubbing my back.
Then he took his hand out of my trousers. I was still catching my breath when I heard him lick his fingers. A second later, his open palm smacked my ass hard. I gasped and spun around.
Caleb leaned against the counter, completely calm, his grey eyes focked on mine while he licked my wetness off his fingers.
“You were saying something,” he said. “About who else might be behind this.”
I stared at him.
“You’re a menace,” I said.
The corner of his mouth lifted. “I know. So-who else?”
I turned back to the table trying to steady myself and picked up my coffee mug.
“If Diana wanted to hurt us,” I said, “she had easier opportunities, the dinner. The time before you confronted her.” I kept my eyes on the table. “This feels different, it looks more staged. Like whoever is doing this wants us scared and looking in the wrong direction.”
The smile was gone from his face now. “I’ve thought the same thing.”
“So who else?”
His jaw tightened. “I have people looking.”
Tom noticed on Saturday. He’d been watching from the hall window when the security car did a slow pass of the block – something they’d started doing twice daily – and he came to find me in the study with his forehead creased and his dinosaur clutched in one hand, which was his tell.
“Mummy, why is there always a car?”
I closed my laptop and moved to make space for him on the chair beside me, and he climbed up and sat pressed against my side, looking up at me with those grey eyes that saw more than he should at his age.
“Because right now, we’re being extra careful,” I said.
“Because of a bad person?”
I looked at him steadily. “Because we don’t know yet. But your dad and I are figuring it out, and in the meantime we just have some extra people keeping an eye on things.”
He thought about this. “Will they try to take me?”
