Chapter 482
Snowflakes
Sometimes I wonder what life would be like if I hadn’t been mistakenly swapped at birth with Viviana. Other times I wonder what life would be like if I had my werewolf. And other times I wonder what life would have been like if I hadn’t been raped.
Maybe I wouldn’t be here. Maybe I would be happier. Or maybe I would be sadder.
People say everything happens for a reason, and no matter the situation one finds themselves in, thanks should be given to the creator.
Over the years I never gave any thanks. Instead, I only restrained myself from cursing the Moon Goddess.
Until this morning when Cupid looked me in the eyes, with such softness and intensity at the same time and said he wanted to go official with me.
A man who knows exactly what he wants. And I, a woman who believes I know what I want, agreed immediately.
I don’t know why, or how, or when it happened. All I know is that every part of me detests the imagination, the reason, or even the thought of Cupid with another woman, another touch, another stare.
Going official gives me the right to claim him. To let the world know he is taken, so other women can shoo off, and I can take my place at his side as his woman.
This morning, after we made love, he bathed me. And as I brushed my teeth while he waited, I felt his gaze on me the entire time. His eyes traced my body, the same body that irritated me for years because nine men had come over and over to violate it.
Cupid saw my scars. He knows my past. And still, he held me with tenderness.
Now, standing before the one-way see-through mirror, looking into the interview room and staring at Rasha, I somehow piece everything together.
Marlik Rogue knows Rasha was a pornstar, something frowned upon in the society I grew up in, a career people like those from my background spat on. Marlik knew, but he loved her anyway. He took a fall for her. He did four years in jail just to keep her safe.
And even after she abandoned him during those four years, when she came back crying, he forgave her only to be framed by her again.
Love, and what it makes people do.
“It’s starting, Snow,” Wrinks said behind me.
I took Rasha’s file and headed to the interview room door.
I stopped at the doorway to look at her. A beautiful woman with long flowing hair and big eyes. From her energy, I could tell she was human, not a werewolf.
1 dosed ilic door softly behind me and walked to the seat across from her. I turned my head to the one- way mirror at my left, knowing my colleagues were behind it, watching and recording every second.
“I never knew you’d come dolled up, Miss Rasha.”
The moment the words left my mouth, her eyebrow lifted. She was surprised, as she should be.
Normally, we pamper anyone brought in for questioning so we can get cooperative confessions. But I was in no mood. In fact, a strange part of me wanted to pluck her eyes out. She had no idea how many people suffered because of her selfishness and betrayal.
“I mean, your boyfriend is serving a life sentence and you’re partying in your club. Isn’t that… unfair?”
Rasha didn’t speak. Her round eyes stared at me for a long, still second. Then she scoffed and lowered her gaze arrogantly.
“How about you go straight to the question, young lady? Ask if Marlik killed the person or not. Or don’t bother because he did.” She shrugged. “You know who he is. A Downsider rogue. He’s only looking for attention, and he got it. Don’t mind him. People from that town are crazy.”
‘Really?” I murmured, widening my eyes slightly. “So… Marlik killed Snowflakes Frost? Are you sure?”
‘He thumb-printed it himself and confessed in court. Of course he killed her.”
Tension dropped thick in the room. I searched her eyes.
‘You’re sure he killed Snowflakes Frost? Truly? Because your statement determines whether we take his words seriously or…”
