Chapter 420

Snowflakes

The air suddenly shifted in the luxurious car. The calmness and comfort it held simply turned unbearably cold, and I felt like I was losing my mind.

My eyes were fixed on the ring, and I sat there like a dummy, praying with everything in me for it not to be true, but the more I thought about it, the more I believed Cupid.

Come to think of it… Ares, who didn’t love me one bit, wouldn’t go anywhere near buying me a million-worth ring. I was a fool to believe him. A fool for thinking I meant even a tiny bit to

him.

Our marriage, everything down to the root and beginning, was built on lies. All big, wicked lies.

I blinked now, embarrassment rising deep in my bones, and I looked out the window, praying I could shrink and never resurface again. Cupid must see me as nothing but a senseless woman

now.

I tried to keep calm, unaware my fingers were already shivering until his palm came to cover mine, sending cold chills down my spine.

I dared to look at him. He had no expression on his face, but deep there, I could tell he felt something. I didn’t know what it was, but he did feel something for me.

Tenderly, he leaned in again and kissed my lips, his palm still caressing mine softly, gently, and then his second hand slid up my thigh, pulling up the skirt I wore. Gradually he paused, slowly withdrawing to search my eyes, only to find me already breathing hard.

Our eyes locked for a long time, and I watched him swallow, as though he was about to take the biggest step of his life.

“Follow me to my home tonight, Snowflakes.”

Hearing that, I froze completely, my eyes widening. He saw it; he sensed the awe in me, and he waited for my response. But my heart couldn’t form any words. This is the very first time he had said my name.

I had so many reasons not to follow him home and one of them was that I was married.

“Cupid…”

“I want you.” He cut me off, his eyes locked on mine with certainty. He wasn’t hiding or pretending. He said it like a fact I needed to accept. “I want everything you are. I couldn’t stop thinking about you, even on the trip. It’s crazy.”

My heart leaped at his words. I wondered if he understood the gravity of what he was saying. If he had any idea what he was doing to me with those words… with that gaze.

A lump rose in my throat. I searched his eyes, already drowning in that green, gorgeous stare. My goodness, he didn’t even give me the space to say no. He was too handsome to reject, too alluring to refuse, too compelling to resist.

“I… I have to go home, Cupid. I…” I murmured softly, trying one more weak attempt only for the words to die before I could finish them.

He stared at me, really stared, then nodded and leaned back in his seat. He reached for the wheel to drive again, and I nearly cried, believing he had already given up on me but then he stopped. Almost as though he couldn’t help himself.

“Does he treat you well?” he asked suddenly, turning toward me. My heart shrank at the softness in his gaze. “Despite him cheating on you, disrespecting you by entertaining another woman… did he treat you well at home?”

Those questions dragged memories out of the dark, forcing tears to sting my eyes. I tried to hold myself together, but my fingers clenched into fists as I tried.

“He declared an open marriage yesterday…” I whispered, at the edge of losing my sanity. “He brought his mistress into the house and made love to her right before me.”

Silence fell over the car. I stared at Cupid for a long moment before tears trickled down, much to my disgust, and I brushed them away, turning to the window with a shaky sigh.

“I deserve everything from Ares. It’s my repayment for not heeding the warning of my human family. I deserve it.”

No response. No movement. Nothing for a long time.

Until I turned to him and he finally spoke, with that same deep voice that left no room for protest.

“Text anyone who might worry. Tell them you won’t be reachable from now till tomorrow.”

I swallowed at that, searching his eyes for an explanation, but he offered none.

Slowly, I reached for my bag and texted Dove and Kashi since Kashi was the only one still soft with me. After that, I made to put the phone back in my bag, but Cupid reached over gently, turned it off, and handed it back.

My eyes were on him, wondering what tonight held, what he had in store for me. He leaned in again and kissed my lips as if telling me to brace myself.
