Chapter 388
Snowflakes

When I walk into the hall, I am still shaken from what happened at Hant Terrace. He is so commanding, almost controlling, claiming, and what baffles me the most is that I… I seem to love it. The submission, the way my body reacted to him.
I lower my eyes to my fingers, and the memory of them resting on his chest flashes back. He is so solid, so strong, so alluring. His eyes too dangerously attractive. Even a blind person wouldn’t be able to resist him.
I sigh, trying to push him from my thoughts and focus on home.
Arriving at Ares’s house is the hardest part of my day. Pretending to be happy around him drains me.
I clutch my bag and walk toward the living room, remembering Cupid and I didn’t even discuss the charity event tonight. We are lagging behind terribly. What a partner to have.
I head for the stairs but pause when I notice Ana isn’t around. She usually meets me in the hall, takes my coat, asks what I want for dinner.
“Ana?”
“I sent her home tonight.”
Ares’s voice comes from behind me, freezing me instantly. He doesn’t sound like himself.
Slowly, I turn to face him.
He’s standing by the dining table, a bottle of alcohol in his hand. Drunk. Angry. Very angry.
“Ah… okay. I’ll take my bath and go to sleep,” I say quietly, trying to escape up the stairs.
“I am not going to divorce you, Snow. Mark that word.”
I freeze.
Then freeze even more as I hear him push back his chair and walk toward me.
“You are stuck with me. I won’t let you go.”
I swallow. He must have been notified by the court.
I turn to find him standing right in front of me, intimidating, reeking of alcohol.

“You dare set your brother loose on me? Huh? You think I’ll let you go because some judge or lawyer or a divorce paper says so?”
“Ares…”
“When you were raped and rotting, I was the one who saved you!” he snaps, loud and sharp, making my blood run cold. “You have no idea how much mockery I received marrying you. The husband of a barren woman. Her body has been violated. She is nothing but a whore. I married eaned you up, and you dare demand a divorce? On what grounds? Tell me!”

Minutes pass.
Then I hear the main door slam, followed by his car driving off.
He’s probably headed to Lencia, to vent his frustration inside her, so she can soothe him while he imagines her to be Viviana.
A lump rises in my chest.
I set my bag on the bed and go to shower, needing the warmth to wash away the bitterness clinging to me.
