The moment Sterling carried Elena out of Xavier's room, he headed straight for his own.
The maid who had escorted Elena to Xavier's room earlier, and then informed Sterling, had deliberately waited outside to secretly watch the drama unfold.
Afterward, she hurried back to the staff quarters, eagerly gossiping with the others. "Sterling really cares about Ms. Larkin! The moment he heard Xavier was giving her a hard time, he literally kicked the door down to save her!"
Gossip was human nature, and The Hawthorne Estate rarely saw any female guests; daily life was usually as stagnant as a dead pool.
With Ms. Larkin's arrival, a splash of color had finally been added to the manor, supplying them with plenty of juicy after-dinner conversation.
The other maids eagerly chimed in. "Right? Sterling is completely different from Xavier. This is his first real romance, so of course he dotes on his girlfriend!"
"It helps that Ms. Larkin is stunning. I've seen celebrities in person, and none of them compare to her. It's no wonder Sterling is smitten; even as a woman, I like looking at her!"
"It's just a shame she comes from an ordinary background and isn't some wealthy heiress. It won't work out with Sterling... Xavier clearly dislikes her. He probably called her to his room to break them up and force her to leave!"
At that moment, a younger maid glanced up and pressed, "Nadine, are you absolutely sure? Did Ms. Larkin really go into Xavier's room?"
Nadine Newell frowned. "Positive. I watched her go in with my own two eyes. Why?"
The younger maid stayed quiet, simply looking down at her phone and secretly typing a message.
Nadine quickly walked over and caught a glimpse of her screen.
Her expression instantly hardened. "Cynthia, who are you texting?"
"Shh! Keep your voice down, don't let anyone hear!"
Cynthia Crawford pulled her down to sit and whispered, "It's Victoria Vance. She's been crushing on Xavier for years. She reached out to me privately, saying that if Xavier ever brought a woman home or let one into his room, I was to let her know."
"You know perfectly well Ms. Larkin is Sterling's girlfriend, not Xavier's!"
Nadine only regretted running her mouth, senselessly dragging herself into potential drama.
She obviously knew who Victoria Vance was—the granddaughter of the head butler over at Hawthorne Manor.
Technically, Victoria and Xavier grew up together. If it weren't for the vast difference in their social standings, they could almost be considered childhood sweethearts.
Except it was entirely unrequited; Xavier had zero interest in Victoria.
The other maids were still gossiping about Xavier. "I heard he once took a knife for a girl and almost died!"
"That's definitely a rumor. The guy changes women faster than he changes shirts. You really think he's capable of deep affection?"
"Speaking of which, I have huge respect for his mysterious ex. She saw right through his playboy act and became the very first woman to dump him!"
