The Lycan Prince’s Wolfless Slave (Academy Romance) novel Chapter 247

Chapter 247

“Who died and made you leader of this troop, cousin? You think you can just lord over everyone and dictate our movements just

because you’re the crown prince? You’re the reason she ran into the woods in the first place.”

Roman turns to Nick. “Hey, Lyra’s brother. Are you seriously just going to stand there and let him dictate what we’re going to do?

He doesn’t own this search.”

Anger boils over in my gut. I take a menacing step toward Roman, feeling my claws start to prick at my skin, completely ready to

tear him apart. But before I can reach him, Nick slides into the space between us, putting his arms out to hold us apart.

Nick looks at both of us with disgust. “Can you damn Lycans just stop this pathetic tug of war over my sister and focus on the

actual task at hand? She is missing, and you two are arguing over who gets to lead.”

“There’s no fucking tug of war,” I snap with a growl, glaring at both Nick and Roman. “Lyra is mine. This clown just needs to accept

reality is all.”

Nick’s expression hardens. “My sister is not yours, Prince Kai. Let’s get one thing straight. When we get her back tonight, she stays

with me. Her brother.”

“Oh, shut the fuck up, Foxie,” I sneer, stepping directly into Nick’s face, our noses almost touching. “You don’t know anything about

the bond we share. Lyra stays with me. She’s mine.”

“Lyra won’t be anyone’s soon enough if you idiots don’t stop acting like complete fools and go save her right now!” Kara yells angrily as she steps between us and shoves us apart.

I look at my sister’s tear-stained face, and a harsh wave of reality hits me. She is right, I’m being a fool. I take a step back, shaking my head to clear the anger. I turn to Nick. “Follow me if you want to. I’m leaving.”

Without waiting for anyone to say another word, I half-shift into my lycan form, my muscles expanding, my teeth sharpening, and my senses magnifying by tenfold. I leap forward, running full speed through the thick brush of the woods.

I drop low to the ground as I move, sniffing the air frantically. I try to find any trace of Lyra’s sweet, floral scent. But it is incredibly hard. The air in this part of the forest is completely choked out by the horrid, rotting smell of the demons we killed. The stench is everywhere, burning the back of my throat.

I stop near a small ridge, letting out a loud roar of frustration. I punch the trunk of a nearby pine tree, shattering the bark.

I can’t find her. There’s no way I can find her. “I think we’re on the right track,” Nick’s voice suddenly rises from behind me.

I whip my head around, my red eyes locking onto him as he catches up. “How the hell do you know that? I can’t smell anything but those bastards.”

Nick walks past me, Danding down to examine a broken branch covered in a strange, thick residue,

Chapter 247

“The demons deliberately masked her scent with their own blood and magic so we wouldn’t be able to track her body. Look at the

trail of dead grass. That means they took her through this exact corridor. They are trying too hard to hide their path, which means

they can’t be far off from this location.”

I nod slowly, realizing his logic makes perfect sense. I watch as Nick takes a deep breath and lets his own inner beast forward. He

shifts into his fox form right before my eyes.

We immediately start to run through the forest, pushing deeper into the uncharted territory of the forest. I stay half-shifted to keep

my strength and speed at its peak, while Nick runs beside me fully shifted into his beast.

As we run, I glance down at him, and I can’t help but notice the color of his fur. Surprisingly, Nick’s fox is a dark grey, almost a

brown color. It looks completely ordinary. It is nothing close to Lyra’s magnificent silver-white fox.

“What? Were you expecting to see another silver fox running beside you? Sorry to disappoint your royal expectations, prince.”

I shake my head, focusing on the path ahead. “Your human hair is silver just like hers. I just thought your fox would match.”

Nick lets out a huffing sound as he maneuvers through the thick roots. “We got the color of our human hair from our parents. It’s a family trait. But a white, pure silver fox… well, you are a royal. You should know exactly what that means in our world.”

“A silver fox is a phoenix,” I answer, my chest tightening at the realization. That is exactly why silver foxes are considered extremely rare and legendary in our history books.

“Exactly.” Nick’s voice sounds pained inside my head. “Lyra is extremely special. She is a true phoenix fox. But she herself has absolutely no idea how special or dangerous she really is. That’s why she constantly puts herself in danger all the time, trying to protect everyone else instead of herself.”

The anguish in his voice makes me pause. I slow down my pace, stopping near a tree branch. I turn my body to fully face Nick, who shifts slightly on his paws, his fox eyes looking up at me with sorrow.

“Nick,” I say, my human voice raw and heavy with emotion. “I will protect her with my entire life. I swear it to you on my blood. I… I love her. More than my own existence.” The confession pours out of me before I can even think to stop it. It is the absolute truth.

Nick looks up at me silently for a long, quiet moment, his fox head tilting. Then, a dry chuckle echoes in my mind. “You can’t love her, Kai. It’s a tragedy. Your kind oppressed her kind for generations. Your family hunted us down. Do you have any idea what your ancestors did to our bloodline?”

“I don’t care about the past,” I snap, stepping closer to him. “I don’t care about the history books or my father. All I know is that she is my mate, and she-”

I freeze instantly, the words dying in my throat.

A soft, barely audible sound interrupts me I tilt my bood
