The Lycan Prince’s Wolfless Slave (Academy Romance)
Chapter 130
Lyra
I stand there, my heart beating so loud I’m sure he can hear it. The hallway is quiet, but the air between us feels like it’s vibrating with a curre escape.
Prince Kai is leaning against the wall, his green eyes locked onto mine. He looks like a predator who has finally cornered his prey.
“Um… w–what are you doing here?” I ask, my voice trembling more than I want it to.
I try to stand my ground, but the way he’s looking at me, like he’s peeling back my skin to see what’s underneath is overwhelming.
“Wait,” I say, a realization hitting me. “Were you actually watching me talk to Roman?”
“Yes,” Kai says.
He doesn’t blink. He doesn’t look guilty. He doesn’t even offer an excuse. He says it with a bluntness that makes my blood boil.
I shake my head, trying to keep my anger from exploding. This man is simply a controlling monster.
Why does he act like I belong to him? He has a mate. He has a future Queen. Yet here he is, lurking in hallways and monitoring my every move like a shadow.
“You have no right, your highness,” I glare at him, my hands fisting at my sides. “You have no right to monitor every single person I talk to like a stalker. I’m not a piece of equipment you need to check on, Kai.”
I turn on my heel to walk away, needing to get distance between us before I say something stupid.
“Where are you going?”
His voice is thick, vibrating with a command that makes every hair on my arms stand up. It’s that Lycan authority, that pull that usually makes people drop to their knees. But I’m exhausted. I’ve jumped into a bottomless pit today. I’ve died and come back. I’m done being pushed around.
I turn back to him, raising my chin high. “Why? Do you want to lock me up in your basenien again?”
Kai’s eyebrows shoot up as he looks genuinely surprised. I can see the shock in his eyes, like he never expected me to talk back to him without fear Honestly, I don’t know where this confidence is coming from either. Maybe the fox inside me is finally starting to bleed into my human spirit. I’m put
letting him push me however he wants anymore.
Then, something happens that I never thought I’d see
Kai looks down. His gaze drops from mic, and I watch in disbelief as the tips of his ears tum a faint shade of red. He looks

Chapter 130
“I’m sorry for treating you harshly,” he continues, his votee sounding rough. “Without knowing the truth about… everything.”
The words replay in my head like a broken record.
Did the Lycan Prince just apologize? To me? A slave?
I wonder for a second if I actually died in that pit and this is some weird version of treaven, or maybe an alternate reality,
He looks at me with a softness I haven’t seen before. The cold, lethal mask is gone, replaced by an expression that looks hopeful and almost desperate looks like he genuinely feels terrible for how he’s treated me over the last few weeks.
He takes a step closer. My heart starts to palpitate. I know how to deal with Kai’s cruelty. I know how to handle his controlling attitude. But this? This gentle, vulnerable side of him is terrifying. It’s overwhelming because it makes me want to give in to him, and I know I can’t.
“No,” I whisper. “I can’t deal with this right now.”
I turn to walk away again, my head spinning. I don’t even get two steps before I feel his strong hands grab my waist. He pulls me back, and I slam into hi chest.
I gasp as his arms wrap around me, pinning me against him. I can feel every bit of his body, the heat of his skin, the hard muscle of his chest, the steady rhythm of his heart. It makes me feel lightheaded. The scent of cedar and rain is everywhere, filling my senses until I can’t think straight.
“I just fucking apologized,” Kai says, his voice vibrating against my back. He sounds frustrated and angry now. “That is a rare thing. Lyra. And you’re still
upset?”
I struggle against him, trying to push his arms away with my fists, but he doesn’t budge. He’s like a stone wall. He holds me tighter, his grip possessive.
