The Lycan Prince’s Wolfless Slave (Academy Romance)

Chapter 116

I burst out laughing at her choice of words. “Since when do you talk like that?”

‘I’ve been spending too much time in your head,’ she retorts. ‘Now move. We have a test to win.’

I step out of Kara’s apartment block and begin the walk along the open fields toward the edge of campus. The grass is damp with morning

rain, and I see dozens of other students making the same walk.

It doesn’t take me long to find Amara and Isolde near the entrance of the circular hall. We all hug each other tightly, the tension in the air making it feel like this might be the last time we see each other.

“Are you guys ready?” I ask, looking at them.

They both nod, though I can see the fear in their eyes.

“As ready as we’ll ever be,” Amara says. “I just want it to be done and over.”

“I hope we all pass,” I say. “I really do.”

Just then, Erika approaches us. She looks a bit pale, but she manages a small smile as she hugs me and says hi to the girls.

“Erika! Where have you been?” I ask, pulling back to look at her. “We were supposed to talk in the garden that night. I waited for you.”

“I am so sorry, Lyra,” she says, looking down at her shoes. “I had a nasty stomach bug. I was stuck in bed and couldn’t even move,

alone meet you.”

Isolde raises an eyebrow. “How about the other nights after that? We haven’t seen you at all.”

Erika stutters for a second, her fingers twitching. “I… I’ve been training hard. I can’t afford to fail a second time, Isolde. If I fail again, I’m

out. I had to focus.”

“We should get inside,” Amara says, sensing the awkwardness.

We make our way toward the Grand Hall within the Proving Grounds. Before we reach the doors, I glance toward a separate field in the distance. I see Prince Roman and Princess Kara standing together. Kara sees me and waves frantically, giving me two thumbs up. I smile happily, feeling a bit of my anxiety lift. Roman also waves at me, and I wave back.

Then, I turn my head and see him.

Prince Kai is standing at the edge of the field, his hands shoved deep into his pockets. My breath freezes in my throat when my eyes clash with his. He’s been looking at me. I realize that he’s standing completely alone, which is unusual.

Chapter 116

Why is his future queen not with him like most times?

Why did I even notice that? Get a hold of yourself, Lyra! He’s the reason you were in that basement!

I quickly turn away, refusing to look at him again.

My friends and I walk into the Grand Hall. The space is crowded already. Hundreds of us stand in lines, the murmurs of nervous students filling the room.

A woman walks onto the raised platform at the front. She is tall, with a regal posture and sharp, hawk-like features. Her auburn hair is pulled into a tight bun, and her eyes seem to see through everyone in the room.

“Silence,” she says. Her voice isn’t loud, but it carries a weight that shuts everyone up instantly. I am Alpha Poppy. I will be your guide and your judge for today’s assessment.”

She looks over the crowd, her gaze lingering on the Level-One section for a second longer than the rest.

“Many of you are here because you think you are strong,” she continues. “Today, we find out if that strength lives in your muscles or your soul. The test will begin now. Prepare yourselves.”

The floor beneath us begins to hum. My heart starts to race again. This is it.
