"For the sake of our past connection, please beg Mr. Hayes to show some mercy. Don't drive us to our deaths..."
The lead guard looked down at her with disgust, forcefully kicking his leg to shake off Mrs. Xavier's trembling hands. His voice was completely devoid of empathy.
"Mrs. Xavier, Mr. Hayes made it clear. The Hayes family isn't in the habit of showing mercy."
He sneered, delivering the brutal verdict from above.
"Whatever debt we owed Mr. Xavier was paid in full the day you used the old man's marriage pact to force Nora into our family. It was paid by the billions of dollars in profits and core projects we handed to your company over the last three years."
He waved his hand at the men behind him. "Now that our young lady is dead because of the filthy mess your family stirred up, the only thing left between us is a blood debt."
"The fact that Mr. Hayes hasn't demanded your entire family pay with your lives is his greatest mercy. Take her away!"
"No... No!"
Two burly guards roughly hoisted Mrs. Xavier off the ground. She lost one of her shoes in the struggle, kicking her legs wildly in the air.
She looked back, screaming with the last ounce of her strength.
"Let me see Nora! I'm begging you, let me see my daughter! You took her days ago, and we haven't heard a single word..."
"Just let me look at her, even for a second, just to know she's alive..."
The guards gave her no quarter, mercilessly tossing her out onto the cold asphalt as they dragged her away.
The heavy iron gates slammed shut, silencing her broken cries against the freezing street.
"Mom!"
