Nora's back immediately stiffened, her fingers instinctively tightening around her purse strap.
She lowered her gaze, her long eyelashes casting a deathly shadow over her eyes, completely masking the turbulent emotions swirling within.
"I'm fine."
Nora sat down on the bench and took the clear broth a maid offered her, her voice low and devoid of any inflection.
"I just pulled a few all-nighters at the hospital recently, and the meeting at Lawrence Atelier ran a bit long today. My blood sugar dropped, so I felt a little dizzy. The doctor just gave me some glucose. It's nothing serious."
Gideon frowned in displeasure at her words. He looked at Nora's gaunt, pale face, closed the folder in his hands, and spoke with a hint of resignation.
"If you're fine, then rest at home more. Since Julian is backing the Lawrence Atelier projects, there's no need for you to handle everything yourself. Take care of your health; the Hayes family has far more important matters to attend to in a few days."
"Alright."
Nora stood where she was, secretly breathing a sigh of relief when she realized he had no intention of pressing the issue.
"I'm going upstairs to rest."
Gideon's entire mind was currently consumed by Giselle's upcoming birthday gala. It was her twenty-second birthday. Gideon had booked the top floor of the most luxurious hotel in The Metropolis, inviting every elite family and socialite in their circle. He was determined to throw Giselle an unforgettable, magnificent celebration.
He busied himself selecting decor layouts for Giselle, finalizing the guest list, and confirming the imported flowers and custom gowns.
All his exceptions, all his devotion, were placed entirely on Giselle alone.
As for Nora, his wife in name only, as long as she showed up at the dining table on time and didn't die out there to embarrass the Hayes family, he couldn't be bothered to spare a single ounce of energy asking about her.
Returning to the master bedroom, Nora locked the door behind her and leaned weakly against the wooden frame.
