Nora patted Lucia's back, speaking in a soothing voice. "I don't have a single scratch on me. I'm standing right here, perfectly safe. Relax. You just got off a flight. Why didn't you go home to adjust to the jet lag first?"
"How could I care about jet lag at a time like this?!"
Lucia frowned, her tone growing dead serious. "With a disaster this massive hitting the Hayes family, they're definitely going to try and pin all the blame on you. You're completely isolated in this hospital. How could I sit back and not check on you?"
She pulled Nora toward the waiting bench along the hallway and sat down next to her.
"As long as you're okay, that's all that matters."
Lucia carefully examined Nora's visibly hollowed cheeks, furrowing her brows in distress.
She pulled a bank card from her coat pocket and shoved it straight into Nora's hand.
"I heard about the drama with Giselle, and I know exactly what kind of absolute mess the Hayes family is right now. Nora, if you want to pull yourself out of that swamp, if you need cash flow to get by, or if you want to start fresh on your own, this card holds all the dividends I've saved over the years. The PIN is your birthday. Take it."
Lucia's tone was deadly serious, reflecting a pure, uncalculated concern devoid of any hidden agenda.
Staring at the bank card in her palm, Nora felt a massive lump form in her throat, deeply moved by the heavy weight of her friend's loyalty.
In this world, in this cutthroat circle that constantly mocked and isolated her, Lucia was the only one willing to stand by her side without condition.
Nora gently placed the card back into Lucia's hand, curling her fingers over it as she shook her head with a smile.
"Lucia, thank you. I really appreciate it. But I can still manage. The projects at Lawrence Atelier will be settled soon, so I'm not short on cash. You need to keep this for a rainy day. I really can't accept it."
Nora's attitude was resolute as she gently but firmly declined the offer.
Seeing how adamant she was, Lucia gave in. As she pocketed the card, a thought suddenly crossed her mind about the rumors she had heard, and an uncontrollable spark of excitement lit up her eyes.
