Giselle violently stuffed her clothes away, sobbing hysterically. "You have your Mrs. Hayes now! You don't even need a sister anymore! I'm just an eyesore here! I'm moving out right now so you can have the whole place to yourselves!"
She aggressively zipped up the suitcase, spun around, and grabbed the handle, making a move for the door.
"I'm going to find Julian! Julian would never abandon me at home like this! I'm never coming back to this house, and I'm never dealing with your attitude again!"
The name Julian Pierce, combined with the threat of her moving out, stomped directly on Gideon's most fragile nerve.
Panic completely overtook him. He lunged forward and pulled Giselle into a desperate, crushing embrace.
"You are not leaving!"
Gideon's voice rose in pitch. "This is your home! You're not going anywhere!"
His tone was a chaotic mix of anger and sheer terror, his eyes rimmed with a suppressed, feral red.
"Who taught you to threaten your family with your own life? Do you have any idea how terrified I was when I got that call!"
He flashed back to the kidnapping scene from over a decade ago. The little girl had shivered in his arms just like this, burning with a fever, hovering on the brink of death.
Her tiny hands had gripped him fiercely as she weakly cried, "Gideon, I'm scared."
He had held her desperately in the endless darkness, watching her life slip away. He had slashed his own wrist to feed her his warm blood, begging the heavens not to take her away.
He absolutely could not endure the terror of losing her a second time.
"Giselle, how long are you going to torture me! If anything happens to you, what am I supposed to do! How am I supposed to face Grandfather!"
Gideon buried his face into the crook of her neck, his voice trembling violently from the overwhelming aftershock.
"Let me go! You have no right to control me!"
Giselle thrashed frantically in his arms, her fingernails viciously clawing at the arms he had wrapped around her.
She rubbed her tear-stained face into his suit jacket, crying a river of absolute despair. "You can abandon me for another woman, so why can't I go to Julian! Let go! You don't even care if I live or die!"
