Cassidy Quinn was crying so hard her makeup was ruined, tears and snot smearing her face in a complete loss of dignity. She collapsed to the floor, begging desperately for Gideon Hayes to rescind his order.
Gideon didn't even spare her a second glance.
"We're leaving."
He reached out, wrapped an arm around Nora Xavier's shoulders, and guided her toward the banquet hall's exit.
The crowd instinctively parted, creating a wide path for them. No one dared to cross Gideon when he was in this kind of mood.
The two walked out of the hall and stepped into the private VIP elevator.
The doors slid shut, completely cutting off the noise of the outside world.
Gideon released Nora's shoulder, leaned against the wall of the elevator, and loosened his collar.
He had just wrapped up his schedule in Europe. The moment he stepped off the plane, his assistant informed him that Nora was representing Lawrence Atelier at the auction. He had originally intended to just swing by and pick her up to take her back to the villa, completely unprepared to walk in on Cassidy trying to lay a hand on her.
"The next time something like this happens, just have security throw them out."
Gideon watched the floor numbers ticking down, his tone cold. "You are the lady of the Hayes family. You don't need to waste your breath on nobodies."
Nora stared at their reflections in the polished metal doors.
"I know," she replied softly.
Meanwhile, in the suburbs, at the Hayes Manor.
Giselle Hayes was sitting in a spacious, luxurious bedroom on the second floor.
The decor was a dreamy, feminine fantasy. Heavy silk curtains were half-drawn, and a custom-made rug covered the entire floor. Dressed in a silk nightgown, Giselle held her phone, waiting eagerly for good news from Cassidy at the auction.
Her plan had been flawless.
All she had to do was shed a few tears at a tea party, play the victim, and those desperate to curry favor with her would naturally target Nora on her behalf. She wanted Nora's reputation destroyed at the auction, wanted everyone to know that Nora was nothing but an unfavored trophy wife.
Her phone suddenly vibrated wildly.
