She had truly been blind to think of him as a younger brother. If she had known he was this twisted, she would have agreed to her parents' offer to study abroad and never set foot in this country again.
Right before her college exams, she had already secured early admission to Cabinda University, but her parents had prepared everything for her to study overseas. She gave it up and chose to stay in Cabinda.
She never could have imagined that just two years after making that choice, Galen would rip off his mask. The sweet boy who never called her 'sister' but fiercely loved and protected her vanished forever, and Cabinda turned into her permanent prison.
How many years had it been...?
She had lost the will to count the days. It just felt like an endless plunge into darkness with no bottom in sight.
Especially in recent years, as Galen consolidated his power. He had taken total control of the family business. He played the part of a reckless playboy, but his tactics were brutally cutthroat. Their parents had lost the ability to rein him in a long time ago.
Her consistently stoic eyes finally went completely dead. "Why are you so obsessed with destroying me?"
There were thousands of women in Cabinda at his disposal. He could easily find someone younger and far more compliant.
"Who says I'm obsessed?" Galen kissed her cheek, smiling warmly. "Maybe one day I'll get bored. Then I'll let you go."
Because they were pressed so tightly together, he felt her body freeze. A silent smirk tugged at the corner of his mouth as Livia asked with bitter self-mockery, "And when exactly will you get bored?"
Eleven years.
It had been eleven grueling years.
Galen looked down at the sleeve of his white dress shirt. Livia had fought him so hard just now that the scratches she had clawed into his forearm days ago had split back open. Blood had soaked through the bandages and stained his sleeve.
A brilliant, shocking patch of red.
Staring at the blood, his mind flashed inexplicably back to Livia's first time. The blood on the sheets had been that exact same shade of red. It had been beautiful.
The sensor lights clicked on as she descended the stairs, but out of the corner of her eye, she saw Galen slip into the stairwell behind her.
She kept walking. Galen followed silently in her wake.
At first, their footsteps were out of sync, but eventually, the heavy thud of Galen's shoes matched the rhythm of her heels perfectly.
Livia didn't look back, and she didn't speak. She walked all the way down to the first floor as if he didn't exist, crossed the lobby, and headed toward the parking lot.
Suddenly, the footsteps behind her sped up. Galen's hand locked like a vice around her wrist. "Where do you think you're going? I changed the locks on your apartment. You can't go back there."
Livia finally snapped. She whipped around, her voice shaking with fury. "What the hell do you want from me?!"
"Come home with me." Galen yanked her arm, pulling her roughly back into his chest. "Why else do you think I waited around for hours?"
