Chapter 756
Emerson got scooped up like he weighed nothing by Willow, who was strength-enhanced.
He stared at her, startled. In the next second, the three people crouched on top reached down and grabbed both his hands.
Emerson braced his feet against the wall and climbed up in seconds.
Behind them, Preston, Douglas, and the others came running.
“Willow! Hurry!” Emerson grabbed the barbed fence, stretching himself as far down as he could to reach
her.
His fingers barely caught the tips of hers. Just as they were about to connect, Preston rushed up from behind and slammed into her, knocking her aside as he tried to grab Emerson’s hand instead
“Willow!”
The moment Emerson saw Willow get shoved away, he jumped straight off the wall.
“Emerson!”
“Emerson!”
Outside, the countdown had already passed halfway. Hayley heard the frantic shouting behind her and glanced back. The couple still hadn’t made it out.
Damn it. And now another one was dragged into it.
She couldn’t even find the words to curse them properly.
That kind of stick-together-no-matter-what love? She didn’t get it. Not even a little.
Just as she was about to call the three people on the wall down and leave with them, another head popped up over the top.
This time, it was Willow.
“Willow! Emerson!”
The three people on the wall rushed over to help.
As they pulled Willow halfway up, Hayley saw she was carrying someone on her back. Willow had her legs locked around her husband, hauling him up with her.
For a brief second, something in Hayley shifted.
Maybe that kind of die-together loyalty wasn’t as stupid as she thought. Not in a cold, unforgiving apocalypse like this.
Just as they were about to make it over, Willow suddenly dropped.

Preston and the others had grabbed onto them and were climbing up, too. The weight of all those people dragged them down, as if they were being pulled into a pit.
Right when the two of them were about to fall, a hand shot out and caught Willow’s.
Hayley looked at the group climbing up behind them, her expression cold. She yanked hard, shaking off the people clinging on, and hauled Willow and Emerson up.
Both of them stared at her, eyes wide.
“Nine!” Hayley jumped down from the wall. “One second left! Move!”
Everyone on the wall lit up and jumped down fast.
At the same time, zombies were already swarming in from both sides of the street.
“Raarh!”
“Raarh! Raarh!”
“Raarh!”
A mass of zombies lunged toward them.
Hayley glanced at the horde closing in from every direction, sheathed her blade, and raised her hand.
Flames burst from her palm, tearing open a path through the crowd.
Behind them, Preston, Douglas, and about eight others finally climbed up onto the wall.
Below, more of their teammates were still fighting, surrounded by zombies on all sides. The swarm packed in tight, sealing off every escape.
After dragging a few more people up in a panic, Douglas saw zombies closing in from both inside and
outside the wall.
“We’ve got to go!” Preston shouted.
If they didn’t run now, they would be trapped here.
He didn’t wait for Douglas or the others. He grabbed a fire-element Gifted, pulled Jocelyn along, and jumped down.
Douglas hesitated for a split second, then gave up on the few teammates still fighting below. Ignoring their curses, he jumped down and cut his way through the zombies, chasing after Hayley.
Up ahead, Hayley’s run slowed, even though it was barely 100 yards.
There were too many zombies, with more coming.
They poured out from every corner of the city like a flood.
