Chapter 748

The night passed quickly.

Preston and his group weren’t idiots. They didn’t dare stir up trouble in the dark. After the zombie crisis died down, they huddled inside the temporary safe room and got through the night on edge.

Everyone recovered a bit of strength.

Since Preston’s group hadn’t eaten enough, their gifts only came back halfway. When they woke up, they

still felt drained.

On Hayley’s side, it was a different story. Everyone had eaten their fill, and a few people stood watch at the entrance. They slept like they were back on the island.

Early that morning, Hayley got up and used her perception to check the zombies around the building.

There were about 13 outside the windows, 18 near the door. Around 50 more were clustered by the mair

entrance downstairs.

The rain kept falling.

“Boss, what’s the plan today?” Tyler asked, practically glowing with admiration.

“We wait until the rain lets up,” Hayley said.

“Right! You know best. You’re always thinking ahead of us!”

“You’ve got real insight, Ms. Reid!”

“Yeah, you always call it right!”

Tyler and the others piled it on.

Hayley didn’t even know what to say.

Outside, the rain only got heavier. It looked like it might not stop all day.

Hayley wasn’t worried. They were staying here for three days, including the day before. As long as they reached the nearby financial tower before noon tomorrow, they would be fine

At this pace, everything was under control

It worked for her side, but not for Preston’s

They had already gone a full day without proper food. Yesterday, they barely had a few bites of canned meat. If they had to sit here another whole day, they wouldn’t make it

If they were out roaming, they might still scavenge something

Stuck here, they would starve

The Sovereign Academy gave them each a gun with one bullet for the trial. That was it. They didn’t g any food at all.

Three days of trial meant they were supposed to find their own supplies in a city crawling with zomb

Hayley handed out instant ramen to her team members, as usual. Her inventory was packed with supplies, practically everything you could think of. She even had hundreds of boxed meals that her league had prepared.

Still, pulling those out now would be way too obvious. Besides, why should she give them that?

These people weren’t her residents or her crew. Giving them anything at all was already more than

generous.

Across the way, Preston and his group watched as Hayley’s people started eating again. Their eyes practically lit up.

The smell alone pushed Preston over the edge.

“We’re all stuck here together,” he said, unable to hold back. “We’re in this as one. You can’t just eat wh

we starve.”

Hayley didn’t even bother looking at him.

When she didn’t respond, Preston stood and started toward them.

The moment he reached the line of cabinets Hayley had set up as a barrier, there was a sharp sound Hayley drew the blade from her back.

The cold flash of steel stopped him in his tracks.

He stared at her, at the calm way she kept cooking noodles, his expression turning complicated

He was wary of her.

Because even now, he had no idea how strong she really was.

The only time she had made a move was when she drew that blade and, with terrifying speed and precision, killed one of his teammates.

Other than that, neither she nor her people had shown their full strength

Still, he could feel the pressure of someone far stronger than him coming off her. He didn’t dare push it

But

Food

His gaze lingered on Hayley for a while before he finally forced himself to look away

Preston turned back to his group His eyes swept across everyone there, then settled on Jocelyn
