“Get the hell out!”
“This is our land!”
“We’re not letting you invaders in!”
“Leave now!”

A crowd in ragged clothes stood their ground, gripping sharpened wooden spears and pitchforks like something out of another
age.
Across from them stood Scott’s people, armed and ready. They looked at the crowd with open impatience.
The difference was obvious, like wolves staring down a herd.
The other side had numbers, sure, but that was about it.
Over 1,000 people packed into the canyon, all glaring with hostility.
“Drop your weapons while you still can,” Sawyer said. “We’ve already cleared the zombies from two entire cities. Our boss isn’t here to fight you. She’s here to bring you to a safe zone. Don’t be stupid about this.”
“Get lost! We don’t need your damn liberation!”
The man who shouted stepped forward from the center of the crowd. He looked to be in his fifties, lean and tough, his voice cutting sharp through the noise.
“This is our home! Get out!”
A safe zone? Who the hell needed that?
They were doing just fine here.
And this was the apocalypse. Who knew what kind of mess was waiting outside?
Cleared two cities of zombies?
Yeah, right!
Millions of them, just gone like that? It sounded like a lie to grab their land.
“Get out!”
“Go”
The crowd surged with anger, voices rising one after another
Suddenly, an armored vehicle roared to the canyon, With a sharp recht, it all to a clear ght beamym th

“What are you doing here? You’ve been gone for so long. Where did you go? Where’s everyone else?”
At that, both of them dropped their heads, guilt written all over their faces.
“Well? Say something!” Kieran snapped.
“W-We ran into a huge group of zombies ontside. The others didn’t make it,” Laurel said quietly.
“You went outside?” Kieran’s anger flared even higher
“We just wanted to see what things were like out there. Maybe it had already gone back to normal…”
“Normal, my foot! I told you again and again, it’s dangerous out there. I kept emphasizing it! And you still went! You screwed up this badly and still have the nerve to come back?”
His voice was harsh, full of frustration, but he still pulled them closer. It seemed that he wasn’t about to abandon them after all
Laurel quickly spoke up.
“We know we messed up, but it’s true that things outside are getting better! An entire city’s been cleared of zombies. People are living there again. They’re working and going to school. There are even grocery stores, shopping centers. Everything! You should come with us!”
Kieran and the others frowned, disbelief written all over their faces.
“It’s real! You gotta believe us!” Laurel insisted. “Felix can back me up!”
