Chapter 693
Hayley made a quick exit Trou Ruby’s lab.
She really didn’t see the appeal of that conversation.
What was so great about men, anyway?
Was it better than a warehouse full of supplies?
Better than having control over everything?
Better than watching her base grow, brick by brick?
Not even close!
After leaving Ruby, Hayley had Thomas bring Winona to her office. She still had questions about that lab.
Winona had said her mother was a doctor, the one giving injections. And now, they knew that place belonged to Ascendant Creed. That meant Winona’s mother was very likely one of them.
That was a major lead.
Hayley waited in her office. Before long, there was a knock, and the door opened.
More than just Winona walked in. Laurel and Felix came with her.
Laurel stood there, staring at everything around her in shock. Ever since entering the Haylight League, she felt like her brain couldn’t keep up.
Was this really the apocalypse?
How could a place like this even exist?
It felt like heaven.
“What are you…” Hayley blinked, almost forgetting she had brought them back.
She was surprised how lucky Laurel and Felix were.
They were still alive.
After everything they had been through, their view of Hayley had completely changed.
She had hit them, sure, but she had also kept them around. She hadn’t abandoned them or treated them like the
And they had realized something. As long as they didn’t go out of their way to provoke Hayley, she didn’t even care were, She wasn’t the kind of person who bullied the weak for fun.
“We want to join you,” Laurel said, fingers twisting together nervously.
Her head was lowered, her clean, delicate face no longer carrying that fake, affected sweetness frog been scrubbed clean, striped down to something simple and real
“If you want to kan my bas, what do you have to offer?” Hayley asked flatly.
If they had skills, she would take them.

“There are washing machines. Why would I need you for that?”
“I can gather wild greens and make soup.”
Hayley waved her off. “We’ve gonechanized farming. Livestock are raised at scale. Cooking is handled by actual chefs. Nobody needs that.”
Laurel’s eyes immediately filled with tears. She looked at Hayley like she had nowhere else to go.
“Step aside. You. What can you do?”
Felix hesitated. “I can catch fish. Does that count?”
Hayley stared at him, completely blank. “Didn’t you two have any skills before all this?”
Laurel and Felix exchanged a glance before answering together, “We were both rich kids. We collected rent and traveled… That was about it.”
Hayley just looked at them, not even sure what to say.
“The foraging and fishing, we learned that over the past few years,” Felix added. “The place we stayed before had an inner camp and an outer camp. The inner camp had people with resources and fortified shelters. Outsiders like us could only stay in the outer camp, surviving on whatever we could find or catch.
“In the summer, when fish were plentiful, the inner camp would trade some supplies with us. Sometimes, they’d recruit people and give out a bit more. Other than that, they barely showed themselves.”
Felix explained the details slowly.
Hayley’s brows slowly pulled together.
“Inner camp?”
“Yeah.” Felix nodded. “It’s basically two separate camps. The inner and outer sides don’t interact at all.”
