Chapter 547
Nathaniel couldn’t figure out how someone could be this likable.
Just as Hayley was seriously tempted to smack him, Nathaniel spoke up.
“Holly, I’m officially inviting you to join Ark One. I’ll give you a Level Five manager seat.”
Hayley paused. “Level Five? Then what will you be?”
Nathaniel flashed a bright, easy grin. “Still the deputy director.”
Hayley stared at him. “Don’t tell me the director is you, too.”
“That’s classified,” Nathaniel said with a playful shrug. “But if you’re willing to marry me, I’ll tell you who our director really is.”
Hayley went quiet.
“Thanks,” she said after a beat, “but I’m not THAT interested to find out.”
She rejected him flat out.
“Don’t be so quick,” Nathaniel said calmly. “My wedding gift is generous. Go back and think it over.”
The helicopter landed at their temporary base. Nathaniel stepped off.
Hayley stood there in silence again.
She scanned the group around him, her gaze lingering on Gideon. “You end up with that girl who borrowed a pad from me?”
When Gideon heard that Hayley still remembered him and Shana from when they had fled together during the rescue at Ark One base, he froze for a second.
Then, a smile broke across his face.
“Yeah,” he said. “We got married.”
“Congrats,” Hayley said, patting his shoulder. “I’ll send you a wedding gift later. Wish you both a happy marriage.

Gideon was stunned. He watched Hayley board the helicopter, something warm settling in his chest.
Two days later, the wedding gift really arrived. A fruit basket, neatly packed, with a card clearly marked just for him.
Gideon stared at it for a long time, quietly moved.
After Hayley returned to her base, invitations poured in nonstop.
Woody repeatedly invited her to bring all of Base K1 under their banner. He offered her a Level Five manager position and promised housing rights above Level Two for her people.
Ark Two also reached out several times, offering high prices to recruit her, though their sincerity fell short.
The most relentless by far was Nathaniel.
He wasn’t trying to recruit her.

He wanted to marry her.
[Samuel, I’ve decided. I’ll give Holly a Level Five manager position, plus 100 thousand tons of food as a wedding gift.
[Samuel, if I marry her, I won’t mistreat anyone from her base.
[Samuel, I can absorb her entire base. Everyone will come under me.
[Samuel, there’s no one in the world more suitable for her than me.
[Samuel, why is Holly still ignoring me?]
Samuel laughed so hard that his shoulders shook. “Holly, I always knew you were trouble!”
Hayley stared at the messages, saying nothing.
Liam, standing nearby, skimmed the messages with a darkening expression and shut the screen off. “I won’t allow you to marry him.”
Samuel’s old eyes lit up. “A fine woman attracts suitors. You don’t allow it? On what grounds?”
“Grandpa!” Liam nearly exploded.
This was his actual grandfather! What kind of comment was that?
“Well?” Samuel pressed, amused. “Tell me why you think you get a say.”
