Chapter 430
Chapter 430
Besides, Hayley had come to this mine to survey the surrounding area.
These people looked like the only survivors left here. Keeping them was far better than killing them.
She still needed manpower.
Raymond was cautious and guarded toward them, so she decided to show a bit of sincerity in return.
When Raymond saw Hayley agree, the hostility in his eyes faded a little. Seeing that her group hadn’t done anything to harm them either, he said, “You can stay. I’ll take the men out.”
“No need. I’ll go with you.” Hayley waved her hand. “Nash will stay.”
That was another show of good faith from Hayley.
They were leaving one of their own behind at the base. That way, if her group went out with them, they would definitely come back.
There was no need to worry about Hayley pulling something and ditching them halfway.
The suspicion in Raymond’s eyes eased even more. He looked at Hayley, a hint of approval appearing as he nodded. “Alright. Everyone else, grab your weapons and come with me.”
With that, Raymond led the way toward another exit.
The cave system was a maze with several exits, though clearly more than half had been dug out by them.
A rabbit always has more than one burrow.
Living in a place like this, they had to carve multiple ways out.
Hayley and the others followed behind, quietly mapping out the layout of the base as they went.
When Raymond reached one exit and was about to move the pile of dried grass blocking it, a voice came from
behind.
“Pick another exit. There are more zombies up there,” Hayley said.
Raymond paused, hands still on the grass, then led everyone toward a different exit.
“Boss, this one’s the closest,” said a burly man from the group.
“Another one works just as well,” Raymond replied, switching exits.
The moment this exit opened, sunlight poured in, followed immediately by a rasping growl.
A wave of stench hit them as a middle-aged female zombie, head crooked and half her neck rotted away, lunged straight at him with eyes fixed like a starving beast.
“Raarh!”
Bang!
The zombie was sent flying by a single swing of a shovel.
There were quite a few zombies around this exit.
Right after that, Raymond’s teammates poured out behind him, eyes blazing as if they wanted to devour flest. They lined up shoulder to shoulder, swinging shovels and cleavers, hacking down the scattered zombies around
them.
Charging at the very front was Matt. He wielded a heavy iron rake like a rampaging old ox. One swing skewered two zombies, which he shoved forward as he kept advancing.
Hayley and the others followed behind. Watching this primitive yet surprisingly effective fighting style, they couldn’t help but feel that the power of the masses was limitless.
There were people like Scott, who built their base into a steel legion, and people like Raymond, who fought like farmers working the fields.
It didn’t matter how you did it. As long as it worked.
Raymond’s group quickly cleared out the zombies at this exit.
As they left the tunnel, Raymond instinctively glanced toward the exit Hayley had warned him about earlier.
Just one look made his eyelids twitch hard.
There were already quite a few zombies at this exit, but the first one was completely packed.
Growling zombies crowded the area like a festival gone wrong.
If they had insisted on using that exit, things would’ve gone badly. The thought sent a chill through Raymond.
When he looked back at Hayley, there was a new, complicated light in his eyes.
