Ch 222
Anthony
He didn’t want to believe it, that she’d been gifted to another. He’d never seen it coming at all, and why would he? When no wolfen folk out there would think that their Mate of two decades would be gifted a second Mate.
He stared at that filigree on her neck, gold against silver. His he knew was silver, and it was barely there anymore. The gold had fully overlaid it, or pushed it aside, he thought, to become the dominant part. It looked like a golden moon on her neck and his silver barely peeked out from around the edges. It kind of looked to him like a solar eclipse where sparks of silver were seen around the edges of the moon as it blocked the sun’s light.
She’d told him more than once that he’d let Christy eclipse her in every way, and now here he stood looking at filigree that eclipsed his own in full. Her filigree didn’t depict a double-blended filigree like his did, no it was one fully eclipsing the other.
He recalled that she’d voiced she would shunt him aside for a new Mate if she was ever granted one, just to show him how it felt to not have his feelings taken into account; uncaring of what he would want. To let her new Mate eclipse him and now here it was.
She was also not mated to just someone he could have her take back to Night Whispers, so that his and her bond could stay intact, and she could still be his Mate. No, Selena, their own Goddess, had chosen, after 23 years of them being together, to gift her another Alpha for a
Mate.
Not just any old Alpha either, but a pure-blooded Alpha; what was considered in their world as one of the highest blessings to be gifted the strongest of their kind. Some thought it was because the she-wolf was blessed, others thought it was because the she-wolf needed a strong Mate to protect them from others.
He didn’t know which it was right this very minute and, as much as he didn’t want to believe it or think about it, a part of him wondered if it was for both of those reasons combined. After reading her diaries and that she’d personally helped Selena, was this the blessing she’d received in return?
A Mate that could take her away from him, one he couldn’t fight to keep her at his side. He was more than outnumbered and from what he was getting from his own beast, who was looking at her from behind his eyes, he doubted Shade would rise up and fight Mischa’s new
Mate.
Because not only had she already left them a month ago, but he knew she’d made the

decision to do so over a year ago now as well. She wanted this rejection to happen, and had now accepted another and allowed him to Mark and Mate her and was carrying his pup. He could see the bond between them.
Everything was now up to Mischa, their own Goddess had put her in a situation where she alone got to choose who she wanted to be mated to, and she’d made her choice. She hadn’t even bothered to pick up a phone and call him, tell him that it had happened; to discuss it with him… No, she’d just gone right on ahead and claimed that Alpha for herself.
Then let him come here. No, had her new Mate demand he come here, and allowed him to walk into this office and see them together with their filigree and bond on full display. He thought it was mean and cruel of her.
It was that very thought, though, that saw Shade snarl at him inside his own mind, ‘How can you be so selfish and callous? Did you not do that to her? You thought it was perfectly acceptable when you did it?’
His own beast was against him right now. Shade wouldn’t think of Mischa and Laud like that, not when they had done the very same thing to her; when Christy had come along. They’d never for a single second even considered Mischa’s thoughts on it.
They had both claimed Christy without any hesitation, then gone on to mark and mate her out in the woods that very night, and returned to the packhouse the following morning for Mischa to find he had accepted a new Mate, uncaring of what she might think about it; considered it a blessing from their Goddess to be granted a second Mate and nothing more.
She’d even warned them if she got the chance, she’d return the favor to him and his beast, that she would show them just how it felt to have that done to them, and this was it here and now. This was how she had felt on that fateful day. It was confusing and almost unthinkable. He was barely able to comprehend it.
He could feel pain touching his chest at just the thought that she wanted to be with another, wanting to accept another when they were bound together. To have to stand there and watch their open display of affection, the way she kissed that Alpha back, melted into him. It was gut-wrenching.
His heart felt as if someone had just reached into his chest and was squeezing it tightly, causing pain to radiate out from it and spread through his body. Then he felt Shade just lay down inside his mind, almost as if defeated. As Mischa told him she didn’t want to go to him, that their bond had been over for a long time now.
Speaking the very words, he knew he’d actually spoken to her the day he’d scented out Christy, and all he could do was to shake his head, because he didn’t want to accept it; she belonged to him, had grown up inside Night Whispers, became the Luna to the pack, and now
she’d just abandoned it altogether, along with himself.
He stood listening to her, in a kind of half-dazed state, and then tried to pull himself back together as he told her they could stay together, and they could. Because he’d not felt anything when watching that Alpha touch her or kiss her, so that meant his and her bond could just stay as it was. They didn’t actually have to break it, just live apart from now on.
Only to have Alpha Declan snarl at him about how selfish he was, after everything he’d put her through. He knew from the anger he was getting that this Alpha knew everything that had gone down in the past year, and he was angry on Mischa’s behalf, as any Mate should be.
Only to hear her tell him what she thought in full, things that she’d said before, and he’d dismissed all the time; that he loved no one but himself. Then she followed it up with words of her rejection. He heard them, but at the same time, it was that she’d already accepted her new Mates last name that shocked him into a stunned silence.
She had stated Mischa Talbot, not Mischa Trenery, and that had him staring at her in disbelief, and then he felt it; the pain of their bond ripping away from him, she’d now voiced her choice for their Goddess to hear and all in this room to bear witness too.
“You said you’d never voice a rejection, would stay true to the will of the Goddess.” Anthony gasped out as he clutched at his chest as that squeezing pain in his chest felt like someone was now twisting a knife in it, and he fought against her words trying to hold on to their bond, stubbornly refusing to believe that her words were the will of the Goddess.
‘Selena is punishing us, Shade told him, and pushed forward to look at her, their once-loved and cherished Mate, as the pain of being severed from her filled his beast. This would be the last time they got to see her.
“You are no more excusable than your human. Selena chose to gift Laud one that was worthy of her because you, Shade, are not worthy of her. She will not speak with you,” Misha voiced directly to his beast.
But it wasn’t what his wolf wanted. Shade knew it was too late, was already accepting of this, his wolf just wanted to see her clearly with his own eyes one last time, before it was all over. Anthony felt his beast recede away, to the far recess of his mind, as more pain filled him, and he staggered about as his wolf spoke to him.
“I hold to the vow I made; Freya rip me from my human.’ He heard his own wolf voice inside The darkness of his mind.
few seconds later, he felt it, the pain of his own wolf being ripped away from him. He jured about and fell to his knees, unable to bear the pain of becoming wolf-less on his You never kept your word.’ A gravelly female voice rolled through his mind. ‘Your beast
is fine no
Then Shade was gone completely from him, and he felt all his Alpha strength fall away Hed been rendered wolf-less by their Goddess. Anthony understood whose voice had been inside his head, Freya, Selena’s wolf, held him to his wolf’s vow of loyalty that held tried to convince everyone around him, he was.
Only he could not deceive their Goddess. She’d deemed him unworthy of the one she’d blessed him with. As he looked to Mischa now, pain ripping through him, she he realsied felt absolutely none of it at all. It wasn’t supposed to hurt when a Mate had two competing Mates, and she chose one over the other. The rejection was supposed to be painless for the one she didn’t choose
She felt nothing of the tearing of their 23-year bond. Selena, it seemed, had spared her that but made him feel every ounce of it, a punishment he thought for his crimes against her, crimes she’d tried to forgive him for, given him a chance to prove he’d changed, and he’d failed to do so.
Everyone in this room knew his wolf had abandoned him. Nicholas voiced it and kicked him over to land on the ground, to further humiliate him and he knew it.
He looked to Mischa and didn’t want to believe she would force an acceptance out of him herself. He’d prefer it was anyone else but her, only to hear her tell Laud to do it, and with his beast gone to never see hers, Laud pushed forward and forced the words from his lips herself, for all to hear. It compounded upon his pain and tears rolled out of him as agony spread throughout his body.
He was dragged from that office, uncaring of his pain and suffering, at not only losing his Mate but his wolf as well. The Beta and Gamma, his own former Gamma, gripped him under his arms and dragged him away. His eyes stayed on her, and he watched her be hugged by her Mate, as Declan smiled down at her and she smiled up at him. Even now, with a full rejection just issued, she could smile and be happy in this moment that should be utterly devastating.
He was shoved towards his car and hit it with a thud, bounced off it and staggered about, fell to his knees out there; it was over. He’d lost his first Mate, his Luna, beloved by the pack. He’d lost his wo
