Maloney Jameson didn't attend Jasmine's wedding.
He had been categorized as an "elder."
His presence would have only stifled the carefree atmosphere of the party.
Flipping through the photo album from the event, Maloney furrowed his brow. "What kind of wedding is this? Isn't this just a glorified photoshoot?"
"But it was really fun," Nora said, sprawling across the couch. Her body took up more than half the cushions as she rested her chin on Maloney's arm, looking at the album in his hands with him.
"In the afternoon, everyone just sat around drinking tea and chatting. In the evening, we had dinner, set off fireworks, and they held the ceremony. How is that not a wedding? It just meant we didn't have to make awkward small talk with older relatives."
Nora reached out and flipped toward the back of the album. "Look, all the photos of the actual ceremony are toward the end."
The main stars of the ceremony were Jasmine and Felix. Nora was merely part of the bridal party, which meant Maloney had zero interest in those photos, which was why he had been flipping back toward the front.
The daytime photos at the beginning featured several solo shots of Nora.
Was this the kind of wedding format young people were into these days?
Looking back, when Maloney had orchestrated their wedding, his sole focus had been on making an extravagant display of power and wealth.
His thought process at the time had been simple: even though the marriage happened suddenly and preparations were rushed, anything other brides had, Nora had to have double.
He hadn't wanted her to feel slighted in the least.
But thinking about it carefully, Maloney hadn't actually given Nora any agency throughout the entire process.
He had never once asked her what kind of wedding she actually wanted.
He merely instructed the wedding planners to confirm the venue's aesthetic with her.
And what had her response been back then?
Right.
Nora had told the planners to go talk to Maloney.
She had said the groom would make all the final decisions.
"Maloney?"
Right in the middle of looking at the photos, Maloney was suddenly staring blankly at the page, entirely lost in thought.
Nora pressed her cheek against the album, turning her head to stare directly into his eyes. "What's wrong?"
Maloney looked down at her. "Should we host our wedding over again?"
"Huh?" Nora blinked, completely caught off guard. "Why?"
"It was too rushed last time."
It had certainly been rushed. From proposal to the actual ceremony, it had barely been two months. But when there was limitless money involved, let alone two months, a literal wedding of the century could be thrown together in two days.
"Our wedding was massive."
"The details weren't perfect."
"What details?"
"The venue, the dress, the jewelry—it was all just pulled off the rack."
That was technically true.
Designing a custom wedding gown in two months was a tight squeeze. The dress Nora ended up wearing had been a modified haute couture gown fresh off the runway of Fashion Week.
But it had still been chosen with immense care.
Honestly, Nora couldn't find a single flaw with their wedding.
If she had to pinpoint a problem, it was that her own mental state hadn't been right back then, which meant she hadn't exactly performed her best during the ceremony.
But there was absolutely no reason to throw an entire second wedding just to fix something that trivial.
"We don't need another wedding."
Nora studied Maloney's expression and suggested, "How about this? The next time we go back to Southampton, we can shoot a new set of wedding photos in a traditional, southern water-town style."
