The little old lady was getting anxious.
’Can someone just tell me if Gu Jiaojiao passed the teacher’s exam or not!’
She was dying to know.
However, someone was a step ahead of her. A woman pulled her child aside to ask a question, and a moment later, a gasp of surprise erupted from the crowd.
"What did you say? Gu Jiaojiao is a teaching assistant at your school now?"
A teaching assistant?
Everyone turned to look, stunned. They saw a woman with a look of utter shock, as if she hadn’t fully processed the news, the astonishment still plastered on her face.
The little girl in front of her was startled by her mother’s sudden outburst. Then, she realized everyone was staring at her, their gazes intense.
Frightened, the little girl couldn’t help but shuffle behind her mother.
Just then, the people around her immediately began to ask questions.
"Little girl, what did you say? You said Gu Jiaojiao is a teaching assistant at your school? Is that true?"
The little girl glanced timidly at the person beside her but still answered her question earnestly.
"It’s true. Teacher Gu is amazing! Today, two boys in our class were fighting, and the other teachers couldn’t do anything about it. But as soon as Teacher Gu stepped in, she dealt with them."
They looked the same when they came back as when they left. They weren’t hit, and it didn’t seem like they were even scolded, but they were completely obedient afterward.
The other students curiously asked what the teaching assistant had said to them, but the two boys just shook their heads and wouldn’t say a word.
For the next three periods, they were unusually well-behaved and didn’t say a single word during class.
Yun Hao’s first reaction was disbelief.
’Impossible. How could Gu Jiaojiao have possibly gotten the teaching assistant position!’
’Gu Jiaojiao handed in her paper not long after the second test began. In such a short amount of time, she couldn’t have even finished all the questions, so how could she have possibly passed?’
Just as he had that thought, Yun Hao froze. ’Could it be? Did Gu Jiaojiao turn in her test not because she couldn’t do it, but because she was already done?’
’No, I can’t just sit back and let this happen. I have to build my own career. I can’t fall behind Gu Jiaojiao.’
Xu Wenwan had just steeled her resolve when she heard Chen JianShe’s jeering voice from outside, its volume cranked up several notches. She felt a wave of intense humiliation.
’That Yun Hao really is a good-for-nothing. Even someone like Chen JianShe can mock him so easily. What a useless piece of trash.’
After cursing him a few more times in her head, Xu Wenwan remained in the room.
Yun Hao was caught in an impossible situation. Unable to bear seeing his good friend in such a bind, Hu Ziqiang couldn’t help but step forward to play peacemaker. "Chen JianShe, do you have to be so..."
"Stop," Chen JianShe interrupted, cutting Hu Ziqiang off. "Let me guess. You’re about to tell me not to take it so seriously, right? That Yun Hao was just joking and I shouldn’t mind him? Or maybe you’re going to say that even if Yun Hao had won, he wouldn’t *really* have made me kneel? Is that what you were going to say?"
Chen JianShe cut Hu Ziqiang off, finishing his sentence for him.
Hu Ziqiang: ...
’Those were my lines.’
