Standing at the intersection, Silas crossed his arms, his face completely thunderous.
Lucille continued to frantically do damage control. "He's the face of Capital General! It's normal for a top surgeon to have a bit of an ego. Why do you have to pick a fight with a younger man over nothing?"
"A younger man? He doesn't even know basic manners!" Silas snapped, his irritation peaking. "What, patients aren't allowed to complain anymore?"
Lucille was caught between a rock and a hard place. One was her biological brother, the other her son-in-law. After choking on her words for a moment, she muttered, "It was such a minor thing. Why hold a grudge?"
The moment those words left her mouth, Silas's expression turned murderous. Without another word, he hailed a passing cab, got in, and sped off.
The entire explosion took less than fifteen seconds.
Lucille stared at the empty street in disbelief. She shot me a helpless, pathetic look. "Ugh, what a nightmare."
Silas was genuinely furious. Lucille called him five or six times, and he sent every single call straight to voicemail. The problem was, she was holding all his prescribed medication. Defeated, she begged me to talk him down.
I thought for a moment before bringing out the big guns. I grabbed the bottle of Imperial Caesar Champagne I had been saving and gave him a call.
"Good liquor, huh?" Silas's tone softened instantly at the mention of the champagne. "Doesn't your mother forbid me from drinking? Is this a trap?"
Honestly, while champagne technically counted as alcohol, to a heavyweight drinker like Silas, it was practically mouthwash.
Naturally, I kept that thought to myself. "The Velvet Hearth. Seven o'clock tonight. Be there or be square."
Silas agreed without hesitation.
The hours flew by, and soon Lucille and I arrived at the restaurant. Before long, we heard Silas calling out to us. We both turned and froze in absolute shock.
Silas hadn't come alone.
