The sharp, biting tone confirmed this wasn't a dream.
But why would Vivian suddenly appear in my living room so early in the morning?
I guessed it wasn't for anything good.
Pulling myself together, I dragged my exhausted body out of the bedroom. Looking up, I immediately saw Vivian standing in front of the coffee table, her face dark with fury.
She spotted me too. Glaring fiercely, she barked into her phone, "Then get back here as soon as you can."
I walked over respectfully, my eyes casually sweeping the table. There sat the familiar box of fertility supplements, and right beside it, the divorce agreement.
I guessed Ferris hadn't come home last night.
But I never expected Vivian to drop in unannounced.
On second thought, it might not be a bad thing. Her utter disdain for me had been glaringly obvious from the very beginning.
There was no point in hiding it anymore.
With that thought, a sense of calm washed over me. But a second later, Vivian's overbearing voice snapped, "It was the Hayes family who shamelessly begged to join the Sterling family. Your father, lying in the Greenwood Care Center, pleaded in front of everyone for my Ferris to marry you. What, you got what you wanted, and now you're going to bite the hand that feeds you?"
Got what I wanted?
I chewed over her choice of words and replied calmly, "If the benefits you're referring to are my father's medical bills and my sister's college fund, please rest assured. I've already signed a loan agreement with Ferris."
"A loan agreement?" Vivian looked completely baffled. Her suspicious gaze swept over my face before she sharply asked, "What college fund? Why don't I know about this?"
I was caught off guard.
Did she really not know that the Sterling family was funding my sister's education abroad?
We stared at each other, the conversation grinding to a sudden halt.
The sound of the front door unlocking shifted our attention. We turned simultaneously to see Ferris walking in.
He was still wearing the same suit from last night, looking visibly exhausted from the road.
He walked toward us, expressionless. Before he even got close, Vivian fired her question. "Ferris, what's this college fund she mentioned? Why hasn't your father ever brought this up to me?"
Ferris shot me a faint look, glanced at the divorce agreement on the table, and said coolly, "I took care of it. I'll explain it to you later."
