The Cold Surgeon's Contract Bride novel Chapter 34

The mere mention of pressing charges sent a shockwave through the room, stunning everyone into silence.

The mediators practically had their jaws on the floor.

Yes, Ferris was still the same effortlessly cool Ferris he always was, but in handling this medical dispute, he was ruthlessly logical, commanding, and unyielding.

In just a few sentences, he had completely shut down the chaotic circus. Hearing the threat of legal action, the middle-aged woman looked horrified. Her lips trembled, but she didn't dare say another word.

The Iron Mask took that moment to step forward and smooth things over. "Listen, Ma'am, you heard Dr. Sterling. He is the most brilliant surgical specialist of his generation at our hospital. You can rest easy knowing your husband is in good hands, alright?"

He signaled to the mediators, and together they helped the woman up from the floor.

"Since Dr. Sterling says so, I'll... I'll wait and see for now."

The woman scrambled for an out, turning to make her exit. Everyone breathed a collective sigh of relief, except for Ferris, who frowned slightly and interrupted, "Hold on."

Everyone turned back to him, completely baffled.

His piercing gaze shifted abruptly to me, a flicker of displeasure crossing his dark eyes. "You assaulted someone. Shouldn't you apologize?"

Apologize?

Ferris was actually forcing the patient's family to apologize to me?

Hadn't he just witnessed the woman rolling around throwing a massive tantrum? At a time like this, everyone just wanted the crazy lady out of the room, yet he was demanding an apology on my behalf?

He truly never played by the rules.

And yet, it managed to tug slightly at my heartstrings.

The woman was naturally reluctant to apologize to me. She froze in the doorway, glaring at me defensively.

Ferris read her hesitation perfectly. "If doctors aren't respected while trying to save lives, who will be left to care for the patients?"

His logic was flawless. The woman hesitated for a few seconds, shot me a glance, and muttered a half-hearted apology.

The entire ordeal was finally put to rest.

But the tea stains were still there. An entire cup had soaked straight through my clothes.

The moment the woman left, I made a beeline for the restroom.

Looking at the tea leaves plastered to my face in the mirror, a lump formed in my throat, and I was dangerously close to crying.
